Unhappy (S13) Battery keeps going flat (24hrs) - power drain?

My S13 will retain the ability to start it's ignition only for about 24hrs after a full battery charging.

I have a new battery fitted as I thought my old one was the cause

I appreciate that auto-electrical problems can take some diagnosing so I am under no illusion as to the potential scale of the problem

    However, any suggestions?

I have a Toad full closure system on the car - but why would that begin to start draining electric, if that is the cause?

As ever, any help is appreciated!

    Ripper.

This is going to sound silly, but have you left the interior light on?

Also, check the radio isn't doing something silly, unplug it if you have to.

Lastly, check the alternator. If the diode is faulty then the battery could be discharging through it. (Edit - see EL-29)

    Have you got eletric fans?

If so it might be that, mine drain the battery dead in a few minutes (when the engine is off I mean

No change to the fan in the last 6 years

Perhaps the new battery is f*cked...

    Any other ideas?

Very doubtful but brake light switch stuck on? Brake light circuit is not controlled by ignition.

with everything off, disconnect the earth terminal on the battery. if you get a lot of sparks and arcing, then you have a drain.

only the clock, alarm, radio memory etc - low power circuits should be on.

disconnect for the 24 hrs then see if it's held charge, that'll tell if battery or not that'll leave a drain from car, good chance not alternator if it's fine after a run

If the alternator has a faulty diode then the battery will discharge through the alternator when it's not running.

If i had seen this sooner i would of said to check the new battery. i had the same problem with a cheap run about i bought. When i bought it they had just put a new battery on it yet it kept running flat. After checking everything i could think of i put on an old battery i had and its been fine ever since.
