Pretty pointless as you're not going to find materials that are significantly stronger; the design needs to change to reap good benefits.Originally Posted by ByReaL

come againt on the gearbox subject.
CA18DET gearbox can be made a little bit stronger using parts from SR20DET gearbox ?
SR20DET gearbox can be made stronger by using some parts/kit.. from VG30DETT gearbox ?
why CA18DET gearbox can't be made stronger using VG30DETT gearbox parts,
is anyoane here who belives that froma CA18DET gearbox and a VG30DETT gearbox can be made a hibrid gearbox that could work on the CA18DET?
what if the bell housing is also moded .....
(VG30DETT gearbox is stronger then OS giken gearbox used on CA18DET ??)
You have to use all of the VG30 or RB25 gearbox, you can't use bits of it.
Have a look here...

I believe that you can modify the bell housing of the VG or RB box to fit the CA; it has been done to fit it to the SR so I don't think there's any reason it can't be done for the CA.
You will need to adapt the prop and gearbox mounts as well as the bellhousing.
OS Giken quote the strength of their kit to be upto 600bhp, but this is a bit misleading as engine torque curve and driving style makes all the difference.
The Z32/RB box is supposedly good for more than that.
Using SR box bits to make a CA box stronger isn't worth entertaining.

You can modify it, that's what they do to make it fit the SR.
and of course clutches come into it. paddles help to break boxes.
you need a bit of give somewhere, and if it's not the clutch, and you have grippy tyres, then............
so parts needed will be
a CA18DET engine block
a VG30DETT box
a CA18DET or a VG30DETT flyweel ?
a CA18DET or a VG30DETT clutch ?
a CA18DET and a VG30DETT prop shaft, and have a hybrid one made from this 2 or a new one that will fit betwen the dif and the box
important part will be to have the gear shaft (the one on that is monted the clutch) alignet perfectly with the engine, and the back side of the gearbox aligned also perfectly with the diff
let's say i do this conversion and i'll be succesful in doing that
what dif should i use so it can handle also almost same amount of power as the VG30DETT box
an S14 dif will be ok ? other diff will be needed ?
PS: seams so cheap to pass 300hp mark on CA18DET but so expensive to make them/it realiable

CA18 cltuch and flywheel (the Z32 gearbox input shaft is the same as the CA gearbox)
Std S13/S14 diff is fine.
Aligning the input shaft is absolutely critical.
Aligning the output to the diff isn't as critical as there are joints on the prop to account for this. Though if it mounts to the engine properly then it'll be right anyway.
- the lenght of the 2 boxes is the same ?
-the gear changing stick will fit in same place ?
- montinh the box to the 200SX i think this will have to be custom made and be a very strong thing , in order to suport the box
so from what i understand the problem will be to get togather the engine and the box in a proper way
and this may be done i belive with some custom work on the VG30DETT gearbox bellhousing
in this setup were do you think may be a failure point and why?

The gearstick sits a bit further back, about 2 inches.
anyoane on here has some drawings (tehnical one) with theface oftheVG30DETT gearbox (engine side) and with the CA18DET engine block (gearbox side) so i can do some forecast (to see how they could be matched) to see if this project can be done, before i buy such a gearbox
http://www.nissanforums.com/s13-240s...x-ca18det.html
no progres on that project
VG30DETT gearbox?
VG30DE gearbox?
i asume we talk about Z32 but from what years?
only 5 speeds? or 6 speeds is available also ?
manual or auto ? witch is stronger ?
black is the CA gearbox and with red is the VG gearbox (300zx from 1990)
ineed theseparate pictures of 2 but with sizes betwen bolts........, if anyoane has more precise drawings please help

does anyone has more acurate schematics with the 2 gearboxes?
is there any advantage in fitting a sr gearbox on a ca block?
can a rb25 gearbox fit the ca block?
have a chat with phatbob he know lots about gearboxs
im using an rb20det internal on the ca18det shafts as its 60mm shorter
big dave used this box at 380 with no problems at all i was around 350 did 19 5500 laurchs at york drag strip was ok but by end of day i started to have problems getting into 3rd 7000revs +
damo
damo
did a little bit of reserch about the gear ratio and :
Synchro type on each gearbox is the same type: Warner
same shift patern on both gearboxes
gear...CA18DET.........VG30DE(TT)
1.........3.592...............3.214
2.........2.057...............1.925
3.........1.361...............1.302
4.........1.000...............1.000
5.........0.821...............0.752
R.........3.657...............3.369
it seams that the VG30DE and VG30DETT gearboxes have same ratio witch are longer then CA18DET (europe) gearbox ratio.
PS: it is the VG30DE and VG30DETT gearbox same gerbox (on Nissan manual it is listed with same code) or VG30DE gearbox is diferent from the VG30DETT gearbox ?? in witch way they are different ?
what is the ideea with getrag? what does this means ?
after about 2 years of inactivity i removed the front bell housing of my CA18DET gearbox and installed it on a SR20DET gearbox,
the SR gearbox seams to be the exact same size as the CA after the frontal bell housing swap,
although the speed sensor from CA and SR boxes are not exactly the same i could fit the CA speed sensor on the SR box
also the mounting points seams to be the same i could use the CA traverse with no problems
also the CA gear changing stick fitted just fine in the SR box.
to be honest i don't thing is much of an upgrade , but we will see
