the u.s. forums have a few 5spd gbox swaps behind sr20 and ka24.
Quite a few different threads on conversions.

    http://forums.freshalloy.com/ubbthre...lapsed&sb=5&o=

there is an s13 coupe sr20 making 570hp / 416 ft-lbs tq to the threads.
Runs 10.3 quarters. Stock gbox. Street car

I'm curious also about how to get the torque figures up, with respect to hp. Seems thats what makes a *standout* powerplant... not peak hp.
I like the td06/20g powered ca18 posted here; 494hp/474ft-lbs tq flywl
Ignition map and lotsa boost does, but what else....

Old school u.s. cam grinders always had more duration on the inlet than exhaust, and their cars were torquey and fast. Folks today run moer exhaust duration, and while the peak hp figures look good, the ft-lbs tq way down. hmmmmm

The relationship between torque and horsepower means that if you are getting higher horsepower than torque figures (eg 300 ft/lbs, 400hp) the engine is operating quite efficiently in the higher RPM range (above 5252 rpm). If you are getting for example 400 ft/lbs, 400hp it would indicate something is restricting the torque at high rpm.

The formula for calculating horsepower from torque in ft/lbs is : torque x rpm/5252

    Its torque that kills gearboxes!

I've got the 3 gear kit and mainshaft - its really good. Shifting is the same as standard but the ratios are a lot better.

3rd is the weakest on the standard CA box - its got the least support from the bearings.

I mashed 3rd on my old box and upgraded to the giken gearset. I've never heard of 5th going before.

ups this looks like the most subaru 3rd gears we saw
my mainproblem with my transmission is that I can't shift fast under load. I need some power to put the gears in. very bad if you like to shift fast, quit impossible.
this kit sounds quit interessting, just checked the japanese website.
    thanks

You shouldn't be shifting under load - thats what the clutch is for

    Viper = LIGHT DUTY!!
The key thing to look for in a replacement gearbox is wide centre distance between shafts. Torque = Force x Distance. It's the force on the teeth that rips them off, wider the centers, lower the force at the teeth, stronger the box.

T56 is 6 speed with high overdrive ratios 0.63 or 0.5, max torque around 450 lbs-ft.

    5 speed up to 600 lbs-ft and 25lbs lighter.

    it would be available
you would just have to check with the website
    for distributors in the UK

i think price would be very good being that those prices are only for a gearset
where this is a complete 'new' gearbox
