    Cam cover question (CA18)

Whats the best way to strip off the red paint that is on the cam covers?

I need to strip mine down as the paint is flaking and the colour doesnt go with the scheme of my newly painted bay.

Metal polishers, furniture restorers etc will always have it kicking about, you could always try paint stripper yourself, remember the covers are alloy so wont take much work to get the paint off once you start. You could always use glasspaper as this is used to remove them and polish them by a few members here

Use nitromorse, no need for wire wool Just spread it on and within about 30 seconds the paint bubbles up and peels off.

Ok I tried the closest thing I have to hand (Brake fluid) and that didnt touch it, are you sure nitromorse will work?

    As for painting them Gold

I wish I could show you my engine bay then you would understand.

    They is being painted black!!

The coil pack cover is now silver with the writing in a dark grey enamel.

    Looks real sweet

Oh and I now have a white car with a black engine bay

They where on there when I bought it. Assumed they where standard issue?
They're just standard allen key topped bolts as far as I can see.

Yep! Agreed - I did the rocker cover on my old Astra 16v with Nitromors
Got all of the old paint off no problems - left it all nice and clean ready to be primed and painted
    Here's the finished item
