Bren, any further developments on the intercoolers for the S14? Very keen to hear prices and specifications...

The S13 version has been finished and should be down with Jez now. Hes going to try it and let me know how it fits and if it works well.

If I get a good report then Ill be on with an S14 version asap.

If the S14 one is as good as that I'll be sorely tempted - but will prob need more fuel to go with it, via some sort of chip

Any rough idea of price yet?

£315ish. If the price changes it will only go down, not up

Edited to say that the above price was probably a little hasty, and definately now that you lot have put the idea of a behind bumper stylee ic rather than in front of rad type Mmmmmmmm, gonna be good, and still a big chunk less than £400.

Does that include all the pipe work aswell?
At that price I think i'll definately have one of them.

No that doesnt include all the pipework

So far so good. Jezz reports that its basically all the right shape and fits well. It just needs a slight tweak to the bottom mounts and the inlet and outlet pipes extending by 10mm to improve it

He should be out road testing as I type

Final price wil depend on complexity of the mounting kit as an S14 kit hasnt been started yet. I really dont want to quote a price because Ive basically no idea until I start developing it and looking into the S14s necessities

Bren, what about something like this:

I can get you the exact dimensions if you want. I'm assuming that, like me, most S14 owners will want an intercooler that fits behind the front bumper, rather than in front of the radiator.

Let me know how it goes...

And another one, APS make a nice one that's a simpler design. Its for the S15 but it should also fit the S14. It measures 595 mm x 300 mm x 63 mm to give you some idea (obviously this is quite large, but similar would be nice!).

595mm for length, is it the total length (side to side) or the core length ??
    And the price ?

Just to compare with my IVECO stuff.

Ill probably base it around an existing design just to make life that much easier Core size is not an issue, I can make these things any size

Anyone got a preference to basic design, HKS, Greddy, APS???

Bren, my preference would be for something *similar* to the APS one. It looks like the end tanks would be easier to fabricate (read as cheaper!).

I also found some very good pics of the pipework that goes with it too:
    http://www.racetoys.net/200sx_APS_JR2/index.htm

I know its an S15, but the 2 cars are VERY similar and it looks like those pipes wouldn't be all that difficult to reproduce (it steel or silicon). I am seriously interested in something like this...

Anyything that DOESN'T involve hacking holes in my battey tray or bulkhead to route the pipes would be nice

I'd rather not have the battery in the boot too, but seeing as I've got a bit of ICE a teeny replacement battery is out of the question!

    Ben,

Complexity isnt really an issue with regard to price. Id rather not go for the APS style as its designed for the S15 and I dont want to spend time messing about re-designing it to fit the S14 properly.

Why not go for a sexy HKS style ic for the same cash

    Jackel,

I was under the impression that there was no other option??

Go a bit underneath the car for the left side, I want to keep my huge battery also.
But this requires metal piping, I will go for copper (easy to work), black paint.

Bren, the dimensions for the HKS S14 and S15 intercooler cores are identical, Spec S = 600x302x97, Spec R = 600x301x65 for both.

Anything similar in size would be great!

Also wrt cutting a hole in the battery tray, I don't think there is any way to get round this, but I shall investigate...

Bren, let me know if you want any pictures, details, etc...

    Ben
