Hi there, after some oil advice funnily enough!

Ive got an rb25 converted s14a, it's at stage one pushing 327bhp. Generally just used at weekends. Haven't had it long and will be the first change since i've had it, will 10w40 be ok? And what can you recommend? Also, where would i purchase an oil filter for this? Thanks

    Hi

    I would use a quality 5w-40 synthetic

    http://www.opieoils.co.uk/c-656-5w-40.aspx

Out of those, the best ones are the Fuchs/Silkolene Pro S, Millers CFS/CFS NT, Motul 300V, Redline and Gulf Competition.

    Here's the filter

    Hi

A really good 15w-50 is ideal

    http://www.opieoils.co.uk/c-660-15w-50.aspx

Out of those, go for the Fuchs Pro R, Motul 300V, Redline or Gulf Competition.

    Cheers

Hi, a quick bit of advice.

I have a '99 model S14a with 160K miles (most of them motorway) - I've owned the vehicle since new. Its mildly tuned (no more than 10% beyond stock) - I've been using Castrol magnatec 10w/40 for the last 3 years and prior to that its whatever Nissan used to put in it. It doesnt burn any oil at all. I dont use it on a track ever and my driving style is very "bog standard". Mileage these days is mainly short runs but occasional 400 mile trips.
Is this oil appropriate or would you recommend and alternative please?

While I'm on, my other car is an 04 RX8 231 (stock vehicle) - its really low mileage at 30K and it hasnt been thrashed - its never been near a track either. I currently use recommended Mazda oil for the vehicle but would appreciate a recommendation for this car too.

    thanks in advance

    chris

    Hi Chris

I would use a 5w-40 synthetic in the S14A and you will find those through the link below.

    http://www.opieoils.co.uk/c-656-5w-40.aspx

Out of those, the best ones are the Fuchs/Silkolene Pro S, Millers CFS NT/CFS, Motul 300V, Redline and Gulf Competition. The Motul 8100 X-Cess, Millers XFS, Shell Helix, Fuchs Supersyn and Mobil Super 3000 are good, cheaper alternatives.

As a budget choice, a 10w-40 will be fine and I would either go for the Fuchs XTR, Shell Helix, Millers XSS or Motul 6100

    http://www.opieoils.co.uk/c-657-10w-40.aspx

For an RX-8 there is one oil that is absolutely ideal.

    http://www.opieoils.co.uk/p-991-fuch...ngine-oil.aspx

Even with our range of oils, that's what my boss used in his RX-8 for years, so I can see no reason to look any further.

    Cheers

    Hi

I'd stick with the Pro S, it's top stuff and on offer at the moment.

    Hi folks,

With winter here and plenty of cold starts, perhaps it's time to consider changing the oil that you use in your car.

    Does your antifreeze need changing?
Is your gearshift okay when cold?
Do you need something to protect your car from the weather?

Let us know if you need any advice, we are here to help. You can call us on 01209 202944, email us at sales@opieoils.co.uk, or just ask here.

    Cheers

    Hi oilman,

Just an amazing work placing here all the information, and recommendations you give. To the users as well for the feedback and questions placed. Nothing to say, but thank you.
Is so interesting to get more information about oil, as is life for our engine.

I'm close to the oil change right now, so will post my feedback soon as well if will help other users, as this thread was useful for me.

I sent you a PM for a quote.

    Many thanks.

Way back in 2004 when this thread started you used to deal in Total oils.
Is there any adverse reason why you do not now ?
And I'd be grateful if you could advise me whether Total Quartz Racing 10w50 Fully Synthetic is a genuine Ester / POA synthetic or one of those to be avoided ? (Road use stage 2 S13)
    Cheers

They just didn't sell that well and took up space which we used for other things. Nothing the matter with them though. I don't think they do ester oils though and I'm not sure if that oil is PAO/ hydrocracked as we stopped doing Total before I started here.
