    Hi Jamie

I would use a 5w-40 synthetic and you will find those through the link below.

    http://www.opieoils.co.uk/c-656-5w-40.aspx

Out of those, the best ones are the Fuchs/Silkolene Pro S, Millers CFS, Motul 300V, Redline and Gulf Competition. The Motul 8100 X-Cess, Millers XFS, Fuchs Supersyn, Shell Helix and Mobil Super 3000 are good, cheaper alternatives.

    Cheers

Bit of an odd one, but i have a Land rover series 3 which is fitted with a 200Tdi Discovery engine, what oils would you recomend for the Enigne and then also the gearbox and diffs as they will be under more strain due to the extra power.

It only regularly does short road runs and then off road use, i would say i dono more than 30 miles a week.

    thanks
    Aaron

    Hi Aaron

A 5w-40 or 10w-40 will be fine for the engine.

Out of those, the best ones are the Fuchs/Silkolene Pro S, Motul 300V, Redline and Gulf Competition. The Motul 8100 X-Cess, Millers XFS, Shell Helix, Fuchs Supersyn and Mobil Super 3000 are good, cheaper alternatives.

As a budget choice, a 10w-40 will be fine and I would either go for the Fuchs XTR and SynDiesel, Shell Helix, Millers XSS or Motul 6100

    http://www.opieoils.co.uk/c-657-10w-40.aspx

You need an MTF for the gearbox and I would go with the Redline MTL, Amsoil MTF or Fuchs Sintofluid. The Millers EP 75w-80 is a good cheaper alternative

    http://www.opieoils.co.uk/c-670-75w-80-75w-85-mtfs.aspx

The diffs need a 75w-90, Fuchs Syn 5 or Sintopoid, Redline GL5, Motul Gear 300, Castrol Syntrax Longlife, Millers TRX or CRX are ideal.

hi chap, not cutting oil for the machining itself - it's for the bearings / slideways of the table - it's a mill with oil points that need inserts of a little oil when the machine is used.

as mentioned, something non detergent, iso68 seems to be the best I can come up with.

(though if you can recommend some good aluminium and steel machining oils as well, that'd be great)

What would you recommend for my cars? Drift spec s14 main use if for drift days and my daily stagea (rb25det engine) that has fmic, decat, induction fpr etc? The daily gets used as a commuter but also gets driven hard when i can afford the fuel lol

    Hi

In the S14 I'd go for a 10w-50 and use a 5w-40 in the Stagea

Had nothing but good feedback. Some of our sponsored drivers have been using it, including some 24hr racing. Good stuff and a bargain.

For the past 8 years only ever put Mobil 1 Motorsport 15W-50 in my S14 (stage 1) which is my daily driver but used for the very occasional track day. No complaints with regard to the oil for me – well except for price so its time for a change I think.

After reading through a lot of the posts on here I’m down to a choice between the following:

1, Fuchs Titan Super Syn 5W-40

    2, Gulf Competition 5W-40 / 10W-40 / 15W-50

    3, Fuchs Titan Pro S / R 5W-40 / 10W-50 / 15W-50

Taking advantage of your Summer Sale prices at the moment there is roughly a 30% price increase from option 1 to 2 and from option 2 to 3.

So first question – which grade is my best option. It has to stay the same all year round (about 8,000 miles)? And secondly – which of those 3 options do you believe would be the best choice?

I would go with either option 2 or 3.

The Gulf is a give away at the moment and makes it very tempting, as you are used to 15w-50 that will be fine, you could also use the 5w-40.

Or go 10w-50 (great allround grade) of Silkolene or CFS.

Quality wise Option 2 and 3 are the same.

    Cheers

Cheers Guy and thanks for the prompt response.

I think I'll sort of split the difference in viscosity terms and go with the Gulf 10w-40. As you state that its a match for the quality of the Fuchs Pro oils - the price does indeed make it a bit of a bargain at the moment.

Yes, the Gulf Comp 10w-40 will make a good choice. On par with the Pro S.

Hi, been looking through the thread hoping to find a general rule when it comes to S14as - clearly there is more to oil than I know!

What type/interval would you recommend for my S14a around 280 bhp 86k 10 mile commute perhaps twice a week and a runabout (read thrash) at the weekend! Around 8k a year.

Also I'm not exactly rolling in money, so budget would also be a consideration to a certain extent, I don't mind paying for quality!

    Thanks
