The oil you currently use (make and grade) used castrol gtx 10w 40 in the old engine which had done 140,000 miles. my new engine has only got 60,000 miles
You can do much better then the GTX, have a look at a decent 5w-40 synthetic.

What I'm wondering .... I know you say the 10w60 is too thick.....

but do you think it's so bad that I should drain my lovely new oil and change it now
or would it be ok till next (reasonably soonish) service ???
No, get your moneys worth from it as it is not cheap, at next oil change I would go for something more suitable.

    Hi there,

Need some advice for my next oil change :

    Make nissan 200sx
    Model s14a
    Year 1997
    Engine Size 2000
    Engine Type sr20det
Any Mods : Stage 2 basically
Type of driving: fast road / Drift every 2 months

Current Oil : Yacco Galaxie 15W50

Actually I do not have oil cooler and I have stock Radiator. But I am quite worried about oil pressure at high temp : when I have 90°C for the oil, the pressure at idle is around 2bars. But at 115°C (max temp on track before cooling) I have 1~1.2 bars at idle !

What do you think about this ? Which good oil do you recommand and what would be the price for 10L delivered to France ?

Also, What is the main difference between PRO R 15W50 and PRO S 10W50 ?

    Thanks

I have to be honest I have not heard of that oil before, this could be the cause of the low pressure at high temp, if the oil is not up to the job of hard use it will "shear down" (thin) at high temps.

I can send Silkolene to you no probs, carriage costs are listed on my site http://www.opieoils.co.uk

Can you get Motul at a reasonable price?

    Cheers

Thanks for the reply but what is your advice on the good oil for my use ?

My understanding is that Silkolene oil is very good but there are the PRO S and R choise and also the different grades... What would you recommend ?

The Silkolene is top stuff, if you fancy giving it a go I would look at the 10w-50.

Would you recommened the 5w 40 or 10w 50 for 350bhp at 1.4bar boost. Its mainly used for short journeys and city driving but go for a good blast at the weekend

As a daily driver, the 5w-40 would be more suitable

    Hello Oilman!

I have a 1999 S14a, Walbro fuel pump, manual boost gauge running standard 10PSI- so car all near standard. 39k miles on engine. I drive 5 miles into work and 5 miles home on a daily basis and let her warm up before driving. Then I also do a track day maybe every 3 or 4 months.
I'm using Silkolene Pro S 5w-40 at the moment, with oil changes every 4k miles. Is this oil okay for my use? oil change frequency okay?

I am driving to the Nurburgring in August (so weather should be warm) and will obviously be running the Ring. Should I stick with the Pro S 5w-40 or use the Pro S 10w-50 for the trip?

    Cheers,

    Mark.

Yes the 5w-40 is ideal, if anything your going over kill on the oil changes, this stuff is good for 8-10,000 miles.

It will also be fine for a trip to the ring.

    Cheers

    Hello oilman,
I'm currently using 10w50 silkolene Pro s in my 360bhp S14a, does this sound about right? I only ask as since taking the car to the next stage of tune (Apexi fc D jetro, 260 pro cams, 1.9mm steel HG, uprated valve springs, APT re map) the VVT sprocket has become very loud and I know I'll need to replace it soon but I was wondering if some thicker oil might quiten it down a little and be better for my car? I use the car daily and I'm looking to do a few track days in the near future.

It will be ok, but keep an eye on oil temps if your drifting, if you start to run nhot muve up to 5w-40 or 10w-40 synthetic.

I would have a look at the Pro S 10w-50, ideal for fast road and track.
