    If you miss out the washers, the bolts bottom out in the threads before the head is tightly clamped down meaning they get torqued but you don't get a good seal and you do get low compression across...

    There was a case of an S13 being built without the washers on the head bolts. Is it possible that the same is true for an SR20 ? I've never had one apart so don't even know if they have a washer.
