Im in the process of getting mine back together after it being rebuilt over the winter
i started it last week and had much the same thing as you are suffering
still got lots to do though

i used a rubber mallet on mine but it takes some whacking to get it to move
if you have a vice that usually helps the process

Set the CAS so the bolts are in the middle of the slots as that is around the area of the desired 15 degrees before TDC.
This should settle it down but i advise you to get hold of a timing light...

check pcv valve at back of plenum i blocked mine off which cured the problems along with a catch tank
