if you look where the wipers sit on the windscreen there is an element under them.
it doesn't defrost the whole screen just the wiperblades.

you could have frigged it so it came out both sides with a flappy valve in it so you can point it away from the microphones on the track.
Some of the pro cars seem to have alternative exhausts...

I suffered lots of overheating problems with mine at stage 3 without the fan shroud and a std rad. If you can get one then do it as it is a common problem once you start winding them...
