noise from rear
looking for peoples opinions on a noise that was apparent last year (i only use the car during the summer) but has got significantly louder this year.
its coming from rear, a weird whomp whomp whomp noise that's in time with vehicle speed.
The noise doesn't change much on cornering although it might do on bumps where it; momentarily reduces. different road surfaces can make it louder than others.
Tyres and suspension have been changed, i do have new wheel bearings but yet to get round to fitting them but I'm not 100% convinced its the bearings
drive shafts or anything else?

When was the last time the diff oil was changed? Unlikely to be the diff if the noise changes over humps, but just a thought.

Road surface would make it louder as the noise is transmitted through the subby too. Only reason I think it may be the diff groaning is because you said it's a Whomp Whomp sound. Wheel bearing would be more of a constant grinding noise which got louder with speed.
Is it the same in and out of gear?

Is it definitely not the wear detectors on the rear brake pads?
I know that's normally a squeak but it would go up and down with speed.

If it's changing with speed my bet would be on something like the wheel bearing that you've mentioned or maybe the prop centre bearing, but I suspect you'd feel that as well. Stick a jack under and eliminate the wheel bearings from the list first.

if you push the clutch in when its making the noise does it go away? is it louder when cornering et..
