Split rim questions

I've got a set of volks cv pros. I bought them and they needed refurbed. They have never been taken apart and to my knowledge they never leaked. So to refurb them I took out all the bolts and took the spokes out. I never took the lips of the barrels so the original sealent is still on. I sent the barrels and lips off to get sandblastered and powder coated. They have come back and the sealent still looks ok.

My question is one
- when I fit the spokes again what should I torque the bolts to
- should I put sealent around the outside of the wheels on the edge where the lip connects to the barrel. Will this be ok to hold air
-what torque should I tighten the valves to.

And the last question is
-what tyre size should I get to fit 10j width.i don't want any stretch.

Not sure about torque and stuff but to answer your second question, 275/35/18 provided you have had some archwork done.

I would remove the old sealant and put fresh on. Ive had leaks when Ive tried to reuse.

The bolts for my equips I dont tighten beyond 15Nm. Any higher and the alu starts to distort locally.

Oh. The valves just lightly tight till the rubber squishes a little.

Use high modulus silicone, thats what Image suggest. B&Q stock a version or a Loctite dealer

You could try it. Its a gamble really. When I did the same I had 1 leak and one not leak.

Silicone is a bit hit or miss in my experience, a quality pu based sealant such as tiger seal is far better.

yes you should. if anything the cv pro wheel is at least 15 years old so therefore the sealent will be aswell,

if your going to trouble of rebuilding them you might as well do it all :)

I've run a 265/35 on a 10.5" rim and that was the minutest amount of stretch. I'm currently running a 255/35 and thats also next to zero stretch.

Don't forget the stretch depends on tyre brand as well. It sounds daft but my old wheels had 2 pirellis and 2 contisport 3's in the same sizes, but the Pirellis looked mega stretched where as the other ones didn't.

Thank i will remember that. i never knew that. i guess its down to the strength tyre wall.

im going to just stretch some 245s on the 10s and 225 on the 9. i dont want stretch but it will have to do till i can save for some ad04s
