CA18 Gearbox oil leak
So, I had my gearbox rebuild by a local company who basically just changed all the shaft bearings, seals etc.
After a painstaking day, I filled it with oil, and it is dripping out between the bell housing and the engine block.
Demoralising isn't the word!
Now, I may have put a little too much in, maybe 0.5 litres max, as the engine angle is a little out due to it being fitted in the Celica. I am guessing they didn't put an oil seal in the end, but I am hoping someone is gonna tell me that's what happens if you over fill it?

There is a seal between bell housing and box i would of thought they would of replaced it considering how easy it is, also think there is a rubber seal around the main shaft.
Sure its not rear crank seal?
Shouldn't have a leak from box / bellhousing even with slight overfill.

It is definitely gearbox oil coming out. I did actually change the rear crank seal, but the box has been off for weeks and shortly after filling it, out it came again!
I can't believe this ****!ng box has to come off again!
-
you might be able to see through the clutch fork hole were the leak is coming from,
but tbh I think what ever you find something is amiss and it will need to come out to fix it :(
pain in the ass but should come out and go back in quicker now you've done it once

If it’s the same as an SR box there is an oil seal on the input shaft and a plate with 5 bolts that uses a paper gasket
Sounds like your gunna be pulling the box off again I’m afraid

Gearbox off then.........again!

i always over fill those boxes by half a litre, ive never had one leak from there. worst case it the blow a bit out of the breather till they find their own level.

Well turns out it was indeed that gasket from the cover plate. The people that rebuild it didn't replace it. Makes me wonder else they cut corners on!

Swear you can't trust folk to do anything these days, I always try to do everything myself
