Me an a mate had to sort out his rusty missuses fiesta (the car was rusty, dont know about her) http://300zx.co.uk/200sx/ubb/wink.gif
so we gathered a selection of rocks and stones, and some newspaper, and did the bodywork up by wrapping a rock in newspaper, sticking in the hole, putting newspaper round to bring it back up to the level of the rest of the body work, then plastic padded and sprayed it - any remaining gaps we just used anything we could find
The first muppet to come and look at it bought it, and commented on how nice the bodywork looked! http://300zx.co.uk/200sx/ubb/biggrin.gif

My mate found someone'd repaired his Fiesta's driveshaft by welding in a large metric socket (the type from a socket set)!!!

Maestro Turbo - there... I've admitted it.

Bought a "PERFORMANCE" Exhaust from them Rover Tuners Motobuild. Took it to Extreme in Harlow, cos they said they could fit it. Turns out, the tubing of the exhaust was the same as the downpipe, and there was no way to connect the pipes. So Extreme chopped the tailpipe (SS Sebring) off of a Cosworth Back Box, and welded it to the exhaust. What was even better, was I didn't have to pay for the tailpipe, cos they broke the original exhaust getting it off. Ha! http://300zx.co.uk/200sx/ubb/biggrin.gif Made a pretty good sound as well.

The Fabricated sleeve was worth more than the entire exhaust. And before anyone says the entire car, it was one of only 500 or so made, so that kept the value up for a while.

Iron filings in filler, great for the magnet test at MOT time.

Nice one, I had never thought of that one!

My mate once got up to 3 gaskets and some bath sealer before he finally decided that the head on his metro was too warped to use as it was.

Oh - and this old YZ400 crosser we had used to be held together with grout - holes in the sump and gearbox cover were both grouted up to start with, and we then set about grouting anything on it we could. Top bike that was .......... although by the time we had finished with it it only had about 3 of the cooling fins on the head and block left from constant "improvements" http://300zx.co.uk/200sx/ubb/biggrin.gif

My mate is a mechanic.

He does MOT's.

He is ful of stories like these. He once had a guy in who had got a car with a really badly corroded chassis. So bad parts of the chassis rails had gone. The owner was a builder so he had built some wooden shutter boards and filled them with concrete and then sealed them with underbody paint when they had set. My mate couldn't believe his eyes when the screwdriver he was using to check the chassis brought bits crumbling off it.

One of my dads friends had an old escort. He wanted to sell it for more than it was worth. Since it had high miles he decided to clock it. Imagine his surprise when he removed the back of the speedo to discover a piece of paper with the words "Oh no, not again" printed on it.

Cheers
