Chaps,
What are the benifits of joining the NTOC?
I've been on their website but it doesn't really make me want to put my hand in my pocket!

Also, on a slightly different note, I buy EVO magazine regularly but are there any decent car mags about that don't feature loads of half naked teenagers, not that I mind too much, but you can't really read it on the train for fear of offending some old git or worse still getting a boner, having to miss your stop and ending up in Norwich!!

Regards
Dave

Did you notice that in the review of Billing there is absolutly no mention of any of our 200sx's or our little antics.

Sod the NTOC and lets make this a proper club.

None. Thats why I havent renewed this year. Ive done more events/meets with this BB than with the NTOC. If we make this a proper club we can have our own stand at Trax, Billing, JAPS etc

When you say about making this a 'proper' club, what are you looking for? This already largely IS a 'proper' club, but formalising a few things would probably give a bit of muscle when it comes to wangling discounts from places.

So - what do people want/expect from a proper club?

Also - are people willing to pay a membership fee? If so - what extra do they expect as a result? How much is a reasonable sum, given what is available at the moment and what could be made available with a bit of cash? Are people willing to write regular columns in a newsletter for example? If so - how regularly would you want it (ooer)?

Maybe some advice from the "Z" club would be appreciated. They are a sort of breakaway from the NTOC, question is though, are they like us, or is it a proper club like the NTOC.

How about this.
On the front page of the site we have a members only area. You get a pass word to enter it when you join the club. Membership fee is £5/ year to cover the cost of an URL sticker, an INSANE sticker and some expenses.

Club only events will be organised in the members only section, such as track days, rolling road days, karting etc. If there are spare spaces for any event an invitation will be placed on the general BB. Any events that cost, like the above will be paid for prior to the day. This could apply to Trax, Billing and JAPS where a club stand is used.

Meets such as Santa Pod could stay on the general BB.

Matt_S A.K.A Octane Performance has agreed to assist/ sponsor in some way, not sure how yet.

Any ideas or opinions?

Steve

Dave, come down to Halfway House on Thursday, lets chat!

It would be nice to have a formal owners club that had a bit of weight behind it i.e group buys, getting specialised things made etc.

I e-mailed Janspeed the other day, making them aware of our existence, regarding the possibility of them making a larger bore stainless steel exhaust and the miserable bastids didn't even bother replying.....

I'm looking forward to sending my two year old, rotten exhaust back to them for a replacement http://300zx.co.uk/200sx/ubb/frown.gif

All good thinking. Might be an idea that all events would be open to spectators FOC, but you'd have to be a member to take part. That's how the SIDC do things, and it seems to work pretty well.

Are people interested in the idea of a newsletter, or is there not much point? Possibly a web-only newsletter?

He never seems to interested with 200's its seems to be Cherry Turbos and Silvias.

I don't think he even came over to us at Billing and we didn't get any room on the NTOC area, and 90% of us were NTOC members.

Great idea guys! in retrospect why the feck did'nt i think of that! http://300zx.co.uk/200sx/ubb/biggrin.gif Seriously though
it seems to me that we are allready on the right track, the board works like a club site, meets are also being organised, all that is needed is for some brave soul(s) to take on the day to day running! no small feat! paying a small membership fee is no problem (after all moast of us pay the NOTC £15 anyway!) might be an idea to have area reps ect and organise local monthly meets, local discounts, sounds good to me. http://300zx.co.uk/200sx/ubb/biggrin.gif

I'd happily pay £20/annum for membership if it means raising our profile and giving us all a bit of buying power and recognised credibility. Its absolutely naff all if it means we're a "proper" club doing proper club-type things which seems to be happening informally anyway.

I'd be glad to assist in organising events too.

Top idea!

I imagine a professionally printed newsletter would be a bit of a liability, both financially, (given smallish circulation) and logistically. But web based.... Yeah! Where do I send my money?

I've been in a few clubs, of various sizes, and this BB alone beats them all hands down.

Yup, all of this sounds really good and positive. Thing is, wadda we call our selves? I was speaking with Matt_S at Billing about the possibility of something like this (Yes I can remember - just http://300zx.co.uk/200sx/ubb/wink.gif ), and something like "The Flamespitters Club", or one Ive just thought of "The INSANE Club"

I for one would deffo pay a membership fee, and think that something like a members olny area would be a really good idea.

I'm willing to help, but I'm more concerned about how much help you lot WANT me to give, after all I'm technically an 'outsider' (although I had the 2nd ever post on the board http://300zx.co.uk/200sx/ubb/biggrin.gif ) so I don't wanna go toe-stepping.

Web-based newsletter idea seems to be popular. Question is - what would go in it?

no Keith, it was NTOC Keith...

Dont we have a "club" already? Lots of advice, support, chat, stories, events, etc... Isnt that what clubs do? The £15/yr could help pay for some "extras" such as stickers, articles, newsletters?

lets get this back to the top, superb idea, and i'd be up for it too, the chaps on this BB are a good laugh, and the meets ive made so far have been good fun. And I noticed the lack of mention in the NTOC mag , strikes me as very , in crowd, just full of self gratifying rhetoric. Oh and some one tell me how a bog standard Nissan Figaro can win a trophy. its exactly the same as any other Figaro in the UK of which many are in as good as if not better than that one, in fact a local car dealer has three very nice examples for sale at around £7950. There were 300zx's and datsun z cars that were far more worthy for the trophy. Keeping a virtually new car looking nice is not hard, whereas restoring a 20 year old z takes some doing. Seems like something is up that wall here.

Seems to me that this BB already does what most "owners clubs" do (that is allow exchange of information, ideas, and meeting of minds on something of mutual interest) only much much better. It would have taken me years of being a member of the TVR Car Club to get as much out of that as I have from this BB in 6 weeks!!

I think the only thing we need is one or two big meets a year. I'd be up for helping to put a trackday together next year (already mentioned this in other threads).

I just wish the SXOC was around 5 years ago.... would have saved me the NTOC fee.

S'pose... the one good thing i got from the NTOC was that they told me to steer well clear of Silvia Engineering and just stick to Hiteq and ND.
