Looking forward to tonite and meeting you all although we (me and the missus) are a bit shy so please dont think we are being arrogant or obnoxious, we liven up when we get to know people.

siliconslave
15-06-2004, 21:00
not intirely sure - when i turned up someone had spied him broken down round by the shell garage so we hoofed it over there to check it out and give him a hand.

he'd just filled up, driven about 100yards down the road and stop in some traffic - engine cut and wouldn't restart, well it turned over, caught and then died. Mucked about with it for a bit and then pushed it back to the shell garage and called the breakdown ppl - after that i dunno

Enjoyed leaving the car park and giving a couple of scoobies some stick - shame I had to wait for my mate's MR2 though cuz I didn't know my way home lol

si's got a fuel pump in the workshop..... pm him and ask about it if you need one

was a good night and nice to see a few more people....

remember guys, we need more of you to come along on the 4th July for the pre JAE BBQ and Footy!!

maverick
16-06-2004, 11:00
Well it is all a bit strange.

Tested the plug and there was a momentary 12V each time the key was turned to the second position. But this still wouldn't fir up the pump. So I took the pump out and checked all the connections and they were fine. But the sock had fallen off!!! So I looked up the hole that the sock normally connects to and it looked fine inside; no black crap to indicate that it had burnt out. So took it inside and found the biggest battery I could and connected it to he fuel pump, and got petrol all over the hallway!!

So the bloody thing still works!!!!!

So, just to make sure, I stripped it down and reconnected everything back up. I stripped the cables back, resoldered and shrink wrapped, zip tied it all secure and bunged the whole lot back into the car. After scratching my arms raw on the zip ties when trying to put the pump back onto its bracket in a full petrol tank, I got it back on and guess what...

...IT'S ALIVE!!!! :)

Not sure what happened there. Maybe the sock falling off meant that some crap was sucked in and jammed the cogs inside? Well it works now, and the car started first time, makes a merry humming noise and has idled happily for the last twenty minutes. Shame that there is now a spare sock floating around in my fuel tank. I spent a long time fishing around for it and all that resulted in was about a gallon of petrol running into the drain.

Again thanks for everyone's help and support. :notworthy :notworthy
I just hope this doesn't happen again, and to mnake sure of it, the sock is extremely well zip tied onto the pump, which is very securely zip tied to the bracket. :)

Glad you got it sorted Hingy, I'm a bit dubious about those Walbro fuel pumps now :(
But if it was missing a sock i don't think that the standard / bosch one would have lasted any better really :) plus i guess most people running >300BHP on here are using the Walbro jobbie, and this is the first i've heard about one failing (and it was easily fixed, if a little inconvenient)

Forgot to mention, glad the car's fixed !!!

Thanks mate. I hope the car now just works and I never find out what was wrong. There was a combination of things, though. As well as the missing sock, there was a little leak on the top of the fuel tank, which I fixed with the help of Justin and Mark (AKA Jolly F and Pops  ) I'll just try never to run the tank that low again (yep, ran out of fuel last week!!!!)

Hingy,

Glad you got her sorted mate, I'd have stayed to help longer but I'd left Sara with Jolly, JC and Tom which is worrying at the best of times. Didn't want to arrive back and find out I'd been replaced by a better model :D
