C'mon, we all have them, and most of us know we have them, but have got in to "the Habbit" of doing it, I know some of mine are:

Hand resting on handbrake.
Coasting up to traffic lights.
Holding the spkoes of the steering wheel, and not the wheel.

Dropping the clutch on 90 degree corners http://300zx.co.uk/200sx/ubb/biggrin.gif http://300zx.co.uk/200sx/ubb/biggrin.gif

So, c'mon, whats everyones BAD HABBITS?

All of the above Stuy, tend to hold the gearstick & rest elbow on the handbrake.

The spokes of the wheel is a good one, always done that.

Coasting, thought that was what you were supposed to do.

There is a certain group of lights through the middle of swansea where if they are on red as I approach I change down the gears (while coasting http://300zx.co.uk/200sx/ubb/smile.gif) so that if they were to change on my approach I'd be in a good gear for hitting boost ASAP. http://300zx.co.uk/200sx/ubb/smile.gif http://300zx.co.uk/200sx/ubb/smile.gif

By coasting up to lights, I mean as soon as I see Im gonna have to stop I knock it in to neutral, not roll up in gear.

I almost always knock it into neutral when I know no further acceleration is needed because it's smoother than driving in gear and saves petrol, and you can let go of the accelerator - but it's always at the back of my mind that I may be damaging the gearbox (cf. my earlier posts about noise in neutral). I used to have a BMW 3-series and the Haynes manual had a warning about revving the engine in neutral "if you do this the Getrag gearbox will quickly self-destruct".

Maybe high road speeds & low engine speeds in neutral wears the gearbox out just as fast? Or maybe it has no effect at all! Anyone dismantled a Nissan gearbox?

Dave_mca.. Same thing.. clicking the handbrake button to music.. spledid.. Also Just rest my hand on the handbrake too for comfort.

Now started using right spoke on the wheel for driving.. suprisingly easy to control, and you can get to the indicators pretty easily too!

Also when slowly driving in traffic I sway from side to side out of bordom (like the F1 cars do to keep their tyres warm http://300zx.co.uk/200sx/ubb/smile.gif )

Err thats it except speeding, last minute braking, trying to get the ar$e out in the wet and finally wathcing my boost gauge when driving down the motorway to make sure im not on boost.. http://300zx.co.uk/200sx/ubb/smile.gif http://300zx.co.uk/200sx/ubb/smile.gif

Tell me more about this damaging gearbox in neutral while coasting business? I never thought it would damage stuff myself but a local driving instructor used to tell his students (like an old friend from college) that it would damage the car if you coast up to lights / junctions. How.

My driving instructor just said you`re not fully in control of the car if you coast. Nothing about damage. I coast all the time. I think the damage is if you coast at speed and then release the clutch to re-engage the engine. I`ve heard thats not healthy.

wathcing my boost gauge when driving down the motorway to make sure im not on boost..

If your're weird then that makes two of us! I am forever watching the guage.

Oh, and I do all of the handbrake things above http://300zx.co.uk/200sx/ubb/biggrin.gif

I can never seem to find a decent seating position either. I always seem to be adjusting it. Same goes for the dash lights. Either too dim or too bright. Forever messing!

Yes, I AM weird! http://300zx.co.uk/200sx/ubb/biggrin.gif

I think my worst habits have to be...

1. Gawping at good looking female pedestrians http://300zx.co.uk/200sx/ubb/wink.gif - am I the only one? I've nearly had a few accidents that way!

2. Coasting up behind cyclists, then flooring it past them in second, and watching them wobble in the wake and noise of the Blits zorst!

3. When people pull out in front of me I will fly up behind them at a fair rate of knots, then brake just in time to not hit them

4. When my mates are in the car I will fly full pelt towards cars parked by the side of the road (fooling the afforementiond mates into thinking I haven't seen it), then swerving past it at the last minute - watch your mates tighten up with terror, and try to guess if they'll say anything as you approach!

5. Playing in the snow http://300zx.co.uk/200sx/ubb/wink.gif

I have so many bad habits I could go on all day, but those are the worst! http://300zx.co.uk/200sx/ubb/biggrin.gif

Oh yeah, the handbrake is fantastic!

When I'm feeling lazy - changing gear without the clutch.

When trying to scare people - I drive as fast as I can at a 90 right in the dark which has a cunning escape road that is actually straight on that no one sees cause they're concentrating on the huge chevrons pointing right http://300zx.co.uk/200sx/ubb/biggrin.gif
Of course I have to be on the right road to do that - which if I'm going to mine I usually am.

Was going to post a new topic about this but i'll ask here: For the past 2 weeks i've been drivin an auto 206 and when staitionary it creeps if you don't put your foot on the brake so are you meant to knock it into neutral whilst your waiting so your not holding the car on the clutch?? Someone please enlighten me, i've never driven an auto before! (have to say it is very relaxing http://300zx.co.uk/200sx/ubb/smile.gif )

I've found with an auto you need to hold it on the brake, but if you are going to be stationary for a while it's best to stick it in neutral to avoid damaging it.

My 200 isn't an auto btw (before any nasty rumours start!), but I have driven a few auto courtest cars - like a 1.6 ****roen BX estate - YUK!

I did once drive a Mazda RX-7 Enfini auto, and once it kicked down and got on boost it was like a rocket!

I find with an auto, at lights you can tap your foot on the brake and make the car bounce to the music, akin to the "16 switches" style so beloved by Dr Dre, Snoop Dogg etc. http://300zx.co.uk/200sx/ubb/smile.gif
Try and do it in a manual, and you stall http://300zx.co.uk/200sx/ubb/frown.gif

NikB

It is possible to make a manual motor bounce with the aid of the handbrake....

Last auto I drove was a SAAB 95 or 9-5 whatever you call it. Feckin quick but very scary when you lift off for a bend - it kept going! Scared 10 shades of colour out of me.

Nik

Oh, by the way I do the clicky handbrake thing as well. If you get it right you can click it up and down a bit (depending how much play there is in you brakes).
Does anybody else have to have their volume on an even number??/
