Okay chaps,

Seriously lacking sound quality in my S14a. Got - Amped kenny's in rear, rest std.

Right, Should i Amp front components or upgrade or upgrade and amp them?

For extra bass, do i install 10" or 12" in boot? Is 2 10" @ 600W more boom boom than one 12" @ 1000W?

Whats the min. o/p (RMS) of an amp req'd to drive 10" @ 600W without any distortion?

Is say, Apline MRV F357 adequate to cope with fronts, rears and sub? or should you get seperate amp for fronts, rears and sub(s)?

Sub box, can any muppet make one; MDF, screws + glue - bingo http://300zx.co.uk/200sx/ubb/smile.gif oh and some carpet http://300zx.co.uk/200sx/ubb/smile.gif

Whats recommended to put in motor; Alpine / Infinity / Sony / Goodmans - only joking http://300zx.co.uk/200sx/ubb/smile.gif

Lastly, i want to do a custom install in the rear of the boot, i.e on the raised bit - thats showing my ignorance http://300zx.co.uk/200sx/ubb/confused.gif

Cheers chaps, wanted to ask the experts before i ring Dave @ ICE World and recommends anything that he's got in stock.

Any ideas gladly welcomed - thats not an invite to bully!!!

Welcome aboard Dave. So many Q's, so many different answers. Here's what I'd reccomend you do.

Get a DECENT head unit. Without it, it doesn't matter how much you spend on amp and speakers, if the info from the disc int there from the start (or worse still, if it's adding bits that didn't exist in the first place), you may as well give up staright away.

Decent components up front, run from a good amp. Hell, you can even run the stock components with a good amp and it sounds ok, that's what I'm curently doing until I get around to it.

Remove rear speakers, but I suggest leaving the grills in place for a "stealth" look to aid security. As far as a decent ICE install goes, cars with a boot are a pain to get bass into the car properly. Having removed the rear speakers, you leave a nice hole with which to vent the bass into the car itself.

As for the subs, 2 x 10's will give more bass than 1 x 12. This is because of the 2 x 10's ability to shift more air. You'll also find that 2 x 10's will be more easier for the amp to control and therefore sound punchier.

Next, where do you live? I know a few guys that do a really nice install job.

What's your budget? In total?

I agree, ditch the rear speakers. I currently run 2 kenwood head units, r/c & slave single cd/spectum analyser via kenwood 4ch amp ; 10" sub, uprated 6" drivers & standard tweeters in A pillar. Your amp must have hi & low pass filters . Also a must is sound deadening in the doors & boot-not cheap!I also needed a ground loop earth to remove whine. Cheers & good luck.
