Got a new Kenwood head unit (DMASK) and it has a clip on bezel (surround) that covers up the metal work (that you don't want to see).

But it won't flipping fit on because the hole in the dash is too small!

Anyone else had this problem and come up with a cunning solution?

(Apart from spending hours filing it down)

Yeah, my Sony has the same problem.
Easy to cure. Just fit the bezel back in the box and ignore.

:D :D :D

i fitted a sony with a pull off front, it was way too wide to fit under the dash plastic.
So i got my Dremmel on it and filed down the inner plastic edge of the surround.
Look factory now.
No one noticed the cut!

Hi,
I had the same problem when I fitted my Kenwood..
(that and the fact my Arial co-ax plug was a weird 3pin affair)
.. In the end I made slots out of the holes on the mounting chassis (not the stereo) and managed to get the head unit to stick out 3mm or so from the dash surround.
Then it was a case of VERY carefully grinding the back of the Kenwood clip-on surround, at a approx. 40 deg angle (because the dash surround is not vertical) ..
This worked a treat and the unit looks great.
You could just as easy do this with a file if you don't have access to a grinder.
I have been told a replacement Kenwood clip-on surround is not all that expensive if you do get a bit carried away and take off too much.
I must also add that I'm singularly useless when it comes to doing hands on things.. But even being useless like me.. With a little care and time you can make it look nice!
Good luck,
bg.

I thought that mine wouldn't fit when i bought my kenwood minidisc head unit. It was very ****ing tight, but it did fit after bending the cage , and the black surround fitted as well. Give it anohter go. :)
