Can anyone suggest what size speakers will fit behind the door speaker grills on and S13. I am looking at getting a set of Focal 5" or 6". Pretty sure the 5's would fit but would prefer the 6's. Not bothered about having to make MDF baffles.

I fitted 5.25" Alpines in the front of my old S13 - they went in no probs with MDF baffles. I reckon there would easily be enough room for a set of 6" speakers.

the 5 inches or the 6x9's

I have found that 6x9s will fit but you may have to cut the door card and fit after market grills.
I currently have Infinity 6" mid bass and Emit tweeter on MDF baffles. I would recommend this over 6x9s purely for the ease of fitment. They sound good, maybe not as bassy as 6x9s but if you are using a sub you wont notice this, and I find the mid range to be a lot clearer.

6x9's are for the rear shelves of Nova's and 'Scorts boys. If you can, get a set of 6.5" components in the front, they'll give you the best results. Mount the tweeters in the kick wells if you wanna do it properly, that's where they sound best.

If you can't get 6.5" in, go for 6" or 5.25" if that's all that'll fit.

Recomendations: JL Audio / Phoenix gold / DLS / MB Quart.

6 1/2" Focals on order me thinks. Have a look at the web site.

Does anyone know the maximum mounting depth for the door speakers on an S13. Wanna order the Focals real soon but haven't really got time to take the door apart.

I had a set of 6.5" components in the front, went in with a slight bit of cutting to the plastic holders and door cards but then changed to a set of MB Quarts which sound the nuts, and made little baffles to go on the outside of the cards. Lovely.
