View Full Version : Annoying high frequency whistle

My S14a has a very annoying high frequency whistle all the time the engine is running. The noise can be heard inside and outside the car. I thought it was emanating from underneath the car.
I've got a year's warranty with the car, so I took it back to the dealer, who kept it a day, and then told me it was the fuel pump.
I asked if they were replacing it, but was informed that there was nothing wrong with the pump, and that 'they all do it'!

So what I need to know is whether they all really do do it.
I find it hard to believe, because the noise, although not that loud, can become annoying.
If I have been subject to a severe bullsh***ing then I will going back for a 'chat' with the service manager.

cheers

Dave

My fuel pump does make a whistling noise but you have to put your head right by it to notice it!
By no means is it annoying or even noticable.
Say OI! FIX IT!!!
Good luck.

Far too many mods to list here, it takes up far too much space and after being asked very nicely I've decided to shorten the sig (Is that a WOOHOO I hear??)
I, have NO SMELLY TREE, have no plans for a smelly tree and do not want a smelly tree, EVER!!!
Do not take offence to anything I say, even though I probably mean it. I am more than slightly mad, so just chill de feck oooot, ok!

Dave, how about wrecking your pump by running it backwards or running it dry until it dies then they have to replace it

Are YOU certain it's the pump and not a belt? To find out if it's a belt, spray a little water or glass cleaner onto each of the belts individually and find the one when it goes quiet

Ferg.
I'm not sure if its the pump. Been listening under the car with a rubber tube, and the noise seems strongest up the side of the fuel tank, so the pump seems favourite.
Think I'll take it to another Nissan dealer for an opinion, and then go back to my dealer armed with some ammo.

Ba**ar*s are all nice and friendly till you hand over your cash, but once you have a problem.....

Dave,

Bring the car to Barrack Road Reg Vardi Nissan in Leeds. I can meet you down there in my 14a (I work 2 mins away) and you can do a noise comparison. If yours is making a noise which mine doesn't then it will be easier to convince Nissan that there's a problem when they have a side by side comparison.

Geoff,

Thanks for the offer. I finish work at 16.00 in Wakey, so I'm going to see if Reg Vardy can have a quick look one day about 16.30, while I wait. Can U email me a contact number, then I can call U if necessary. (What time do U finish work? Is this too late?)

cheers

Dave,

I work later than they do in Reg Vardi's, so shouldn't be a problem. Can make it tonight if you like. I shouldn't worry about trying to prebook, if we turn up together, you can then say 'I want to book in to get THIS noise cured'. I know the guy who works on the service desk, he's sound. He'll come out to take a look no problem.

High frequency noise whenever the engine is running?
It`ll be the mrs mate. Tell her to get out and get the bus. Problem solved.
(No whistling in mine either mate)
