Anyone attempting this on an S14a should be aware that the instructions are wrong and the diagrams in the .pdf manual aren't right either!

The wire for engine speed is blue and black, not red and yellow. I used red and yellow first (as per the instructions) and it made the car run like a bag of ****e (never got round to actually testing with blue and black cos I ran out of connectors, but I've been assured that its correct!).

Should all get sorted properly this week, I'll keep you posted on my (lack of) success!

I didn't have any of these problems when mine was fitted! http://300zx.co.uk/200sx/ubb/biggrin.gif

Far too many mods to list here, it takes up far too much space and after being asked very nicely I've decided to shorten the sig (Is that a WOOHOO I hear??)
I, have NO SMELLY TREE, have no plans for a smelly tree and do not want a smelly tree, EVER!!!
Do not take offence to anything I say, even though I probably mean it. I am more than slightly mad, so just chill de feck oooot, ok!

Ben, according to the fitting instructions for Blitz turbo timers the speed signal wire is, err, right- 4 'blocks' of wires in the ECU plug coupler, its the block with 20 wires in it at one end of the coupler. If it held so the block is at the bottom, wires pointing towards you, not the connectors, its on the left hand side, 8th one up from the bottom. Hope this makes sense.

Cheers Steve, that kinda makes sense.

I've been wondering for a while, what is entailed in fitting traction control? Is it just a matter of splicing in a box of electonics, or is there more to it than that?

You need to change the setup of the reference wheels via a laptop as we only have one rear ABS sensor on the dif. It shows how in the manual.

Geoff, the actual fitting (ie. placement of all the cables and boxes) is really easy. Then if you have the correct instructions it's really easy to splice/cut in the wires. After that you have to plug in a laptop and do a bit of configuration. After mine is sorted I'll post some decent instructions...

Cheers guys. So basically the system works by cutting the ignition when the ABS sensor detects the rear wheels are spinning up?

It cuts injector cycles (ie no fuel for that cycle) when it detects a difference between the measured wheels and the reference wheels.
It's better to cut the fuel rather than the spark as it stops all the unburnt fuel scouring the bores and knackering the cat (if you still have one on). Also because there is no fuel on the cycle you don't get a lean burn (more heat) that you would get if it only reduced it. I think it sounds cool when the fuel cut is on, rather like a rally car.

So hopefully it catches the back end pretty bloody quick then ? Once the back gets a fair way out, cutting the fuel would be disastrous as it shifts the weight forward bringing the back end with it.
Has anyone on the board really tried to lose it with traction control on to see what happens ?

Today I managed to find a correct ECU diagram and pin-out list. If anyone wants it I can post the URL. Also found out that I actually wired it in correctly, so maybe theres a problem with the connectors or the control box. If I can't get it sorted next weekend then I'm going to Racelogic.

How much does the traction control gizmo cost?

Goto www.racelogic.co.uk (http://www.racelogic.co.uk) and look for traction control, they are the people who make and sell them.

You should contact Matt_S and/or Johnny at Grasshopper http://www.grasshopperprosport.co.uk
I got mine with the last group buy for £550 for the adjustable traction control with launch control (direct from Racelogic its £495 basic system + £200 adjustable upgrade + £200 launch control all +vat).
I decided to get mine fitted by Racelogic as well (£120+vat).

Have a look at http://300zx.co.uk/200sx/ubb/Forum3/HTML/000076.html for my first impressions.
And yes I have tried to make it step out on purpose (we have a huge car park at work and I work nights sometimes).
If I set it on Wet (0% slip) or Dry (5% slip) the rear doesn't really move (you can floor it half way into a turn and all you get is the engine misfiring type noise). If you set in on 10-15-20% then you get some drift but its all very controllable.
You can also turn it off http://300zx.co.uk/200sx/ubb/biggrin.gif

SORTED!

Traction Control is now wired up correctly (thanks Dan!). All I need to do now is sort out the configuration...

If anyone wants some instructions let me know...
