View Full Version : Converting headlamps for use abroad

On every other car I've had, changing the beam aim on headlamps was simply a case of sticking some tape to a clearly marked section of the headlamp glass. Not so on the S14.

My local Nissan dealer has been typically clueless about what to do.

Does anyone know of a solution that's sumple?

The simple solution is to Buy some headlamp protectors and stick them to that. Thats what they do on Almonas and pimeras withthe new lights. Nissan even supply those cars with a set of beam benders in with the headlamp guards!. Ur Nissan dealer should try harder. If you have a prob look in your owners pack and ring Nissan Customer Support - thats what they are for http://300zx.co.uk/200sx/ubb/smile.gif

Rang Nissan customer support and they said it cannot be done!!

Guess I'll just have to dazzle oncoming drivers.

This is the first car I've owned/driven that could not have the headlamps converted for use abroad and frankly it's appalling. Should I get stopped and prosecuted in France (and that is unlikely) then Nissan need have no doubt that they will be hearing from my solicitor http://300zx.co.uk/200sx/ubb/mad.gif http://300zx.co.uk/200sx/ubb/mad.gif .

Thanks anyway Kenny http://300zx.co.uk/200sx/ubb/smile.gif.

Just angle then all the way down and stick a few squares of sticky tape on the headlamps to show a bit of willing.

I've driven incontinent(ooer!) before without anything on(ooer!x2) and never had any problems but that was out of holiday season and the Gendarmes are probably on the lookout a bit more around this time of year.

You should be able to blag it though, anyway, why will you be driving at night? that's drinky time!!

Bon Voyage
Dave

JB,

I'm with DJ on this. I've taken or been in UK cars and bikes abroad at least 40 times without ever doing anything to the lights. Do you also take your compulsory breakdown triangle, fire extinguisher and full set of bulb spares too? F*ck 'em and their law.

I wanted to adjust the headlamps primarily as a courtesy to other road users.
I always carry spare bulbs in the car 'cos I want to see and be seen (especially important at the speeds I drive)
Yes I do carry a fire extinguisher in the car - a legacy of having owned a R5GT Turbo that once caught fire http://300zx.co.uk/200sx/ubb/eek.gif

That's fine, just checking you hadn't forgotten anything.
You didn't mention your breakdown warning triangle though, I hope you wouldn't consider flaunting the law on that score....
Oh yeah, and what about your first aid kit?

If a couple of sticking plasters counts as a First Aid kit then yes mate.

Sorry to disappoint you but I don't carry the warning triangle, can't fit it in the boot once the kitchen sink's there.

Just the usual leaking fuel line contents coming into contact with heat sets the engine compartment alight sort of thing.

All happened in about 30 seconds. Car written off but fortunatly nobody hurt. So since then I always carry a fire extinguisher in my cars.

actually just spoke to my parts bloke Bill Heer and he has some *new* universal beam benders that fit any, i repeat any car with new style headlamps - they come with full fitting instructions too, thats handy Harry.
He has supplied them to 200sx owners and as yet has had no complaints ( maybe thats cos they hit oncoming blinded euro motorists and are still in hospital tho )
