To all you S14 boyz (and girlz if any)

any of you lot using an adjustable actuator, if so which one?
how much?
and here from?

I'm too poor for an electronic boost controller at the moment. Though I fancy a Blitz one eventually.

Bayside Blue S13.
Zorst/Filter/FMIC/Bleed Valve on Standard T25 @ 15psi

Flywheel Figure 213bhp/209Ib ft @ 5375RPM
Power at the Wheels 166bhp
(as of 15/06/01 @ Power & Engineering)
S14a T28 definitely being fitted on 21/10/01

Yep, I think Simon Norris is yer best bet....

Nah, he already has colder plugs.

Steve, go to the Halfway house and have a look at the -31 actuator on my T3, they might fit, only £71 too. http://300zx.co.uk/200sx/ubb/biggrin.gif

This Simon Norris one goes from 1 bar upwards doesn't it ?

Is there one which goes up from standard ?
Or would I have to do my own screwthread on the existing control rod ?

I figured (i suppose you picked yours up from a performance sports shop). i had planned on getting one but wernt sure about the fitment.

I might as well bring the T2 along with me.

I aint Paying no 130quid for an actuator,

those cold plugs he sells I get for quid a set anyway, and i currently run 8ES's so dont need em

i think ND charges to much for sum stuff

rather use the crude bleed valve till i get a Blitz controller.

I think it goes from 9psi to 22psi

www.raldes.com (http://www.raldes.com)

These people sell their own actuators, I guess all you have to do is buy a few different strength springs to find the boost pressure you want?

Bean,
Can't seem to connect to that site, probably our dodgy provider playing up.
Does the rod length have the same effect as changing the spring ? I think so, assuming an ideal spring, it does the same thing doesn't it ?

Are you going to get that nice shiny exhuast on in time for the Rolling Road session ?

I guess the spring would have the same effect but you can't easily change the boost by changing the springs, what a pain in the arse.

Their Actuators seemed good because they look closer to standard than the ND, bright blue screams out "look I'm a modification and the insurers don't know!"

Yes, I will have the Blitz fitted, was hoping to get it done this week but I don't get home until late. http://300zx.co.uk/200sx/ubb/frown.gif

Bean,
It was co.uk, not com.... got there now.
Their actuators are only £37.50 !!! That is SO cheap, they do springs for a fiver, and the standard one runs from 8psi to 15psi.
I didn't know boost actuators were such a standard item..... well.... if one of these would fit I think I might be tempted http://300zx.co.uk/200sx/ubb/smile.gif They got threaded rods by the look of it.

Does say they come anodised in bright colours though... well you could always put that heatshield back over the top of it, they might never notice ?

Bit of a pants time of the year really, by the time I get home it's dark too, only leaves the weekend to do anything on the car http://300zx.co.uk/200sx/ubb/frown.gif

Sorry, at least I remembered part of the address http://300zx.co.uk/200sx/ubb/biggrin.gif

I thought they did the actuators in plain silver, anodising is stupid becuase it stops metal cooling down.

I wasn't sure if it was adjustable?

I wouldn't want an actuator which started at 1Bar becasue I'm doing 90 miles a day to and from work. I want an actuator which is easy to adjust for the weekend and when I want to play! http://300zx.co.uk/200sx/ubb/biggrin.gif http://300zx.co.uk/200sx/ubb/biggrin.gif :

Bean,
They do anodised silver, so that would probably be the best one. They do look adjustable one spring does 8 - 15psi, and there's definitely a thread on the rod, couple of fixing bolts on the front there. I'll have a look at the one on my car, if they look simillar I think I'll just get one.

Those heatshields are rather "gay" anyway. Took the main one off the manifold the other weekend, boy was it rattling around like an old dustbin lid.
Had to put some heat shielding on a couple of the rubber hoses which come close, but that wasn't too much hassle.

Good find that http://300zx.co.uk/200sx/ubb/biggrin.gif It's just begging to be bought.

I'll let you know what it's like. Might even have it fitted before the RR day if I have the time.

I emailed Rally Design to ask if their Actuators are adjustable, they said they're not.

I guess that messes that idea up then!

Just a bit ! The guy on the phone I talked to said they were http://300zx.co.uk/200sx/ubb/frown.gif
DOH !

How can one spring do 8psi to 15psi if they're not adjustable then ? I'm well confused.

Oh no, they don't mean a number 8 spring is 8psi do they ? and a number 10 spring is 10psi.... bleedin nora....I've bought the bleeding thing now. It's not my day.

Huh? I couldn't find actuators on teh website. How much are they?

I'm also after an invisible boost upgrade. I shall follow your progress with interest http://300zx.co.uk/200sx/ubb/smile.gif

Nick,
You have to look under dump valves.
They're £37.50, and springs are £5
I think I'm going to have to get an adjustable control rod made for it, can't be so hard to do.
Got a friendly machine shop down the road, I'll pop in there, see what he can come up with. I think I'm right in saying that increasing the length of the rod by half the spring length doubles the pressure ? cos the force on the spring is proportional to displacement. I'll take it apart and see what can be done.

Got the actuator through yesterday. If you go for anodised silver, no one will ever think it's non-standard. Just looks like aluminium, not particularly shiny even.

The control rod is threaded quite a way down, surely this could provide some means for adjustment ? but i haven't tried to fit it yet so I don't know.

It's got about 12 hex key bolts holding the back on, thick rubber diaghram inside, and the control rod passes through a nice nylon bush. Looks very well made to me.

I have the ND actuator and one turn of the thread approximates to 1 psi.

Nick_Walczak

Tom let me know if it can be adjusted easily or not. Hopefully the threaded bit is the minor adjustment and the major adjustment is by spring replacement.

Tom_S14

Is the ND one a standard metric thread ?
I'll bring it along on Sunday if anyone's going to be down in Bristol ?
I doubt I'll have time to try and fit it before then.

Must be metric as the locknut was metric, I would guess from memory at M6 thread.

For what it is worth, I think it is money well spent to let Simon N. set the whole thing up.
