Asked the dealer where I bought my car for the service history the other day. Got it in the post today. Now I find out the camshafts have been replaced twice in the engine, once at 8.5K and once at 14K (which coincide with the only 2 services it got in that time also)!!! I had bought the 2 year old 15,000 miler in good faith so stupid me hadn't asked for the history before buying as they told me no major work had been done.

Both fixes read:

Complaint: noise from camshaft.
Replaced: Camshaft X 2, Pivots X 8, Valves X 8.

Once I could take, but twice? Why only(!) 8 valves? Is there any known problem with these camshafts?

Think I'll ring Nissan Ireland independantly tomorrow before getting on to the dealer.

All (useful) opinions appreciated.

Does anyone else reckon that the camshafts might not have been the problem?
I mean replacing them twice and the problem still not going away would lead me to believe that the dealer is barking up the wrong tree. I've heard that some tensioner part (I'll look this one up and post the exact details later) in the VVC assembly has been known to require adjustment. Other than that I can't think of anything.

Two changes of camshaft in 14,000 miles, thats dodgy, maybe there is an inadiquate flow of oil to the cylinder head, therefore causing wear to the valves/cams

Rang Nissan Ireland today. By fluke, the guy I talked to knew my car. Turns out the dealer had been trying to fix the rattle I got sorted with the cam sproceket change only they thought it was the cams, twice. Fair enough, but I'm still piss*d that the dealer acted like they knew nothing about it.
