Just a quickie...

I'm thinking of getting an uprated intercooler to sit in the standard position in the wing (so my insurance company can be kept in the dark!)... What benefits will replacing the intercooler give on a car with no boost upgrades? (but I do have K&N filter & a zorst)

Most importantly, will it improve power?

I'm looking at doing the same for the same reason, i understand the main benefit is less boost drop of at high revs. According to my local tuning company it should help quite abit.

I'm hoping the insurance company won't notice the upgrade, and I can claim it is an OE spec IC!

Less boost drop would be good, but it would be nice to hear from someone who has fitted one to see how much difference it really makes (before I shell out more hard earned cash!)

No doubt you know ND do a replacment IC for £375 that goes in the Wing replacing the original one.

I was aware of the ND wing mounted IC, it is the one I am thinking of getting - if I can convince myself (or someone else can convince me!) that nearly 4 hundred quid is worth it...

Thinking about this mod myself, is it easy to do, will I need to take the front end off to get at the thing?
I remember a write up in Revs a few years ago about a HKS wing mounted IC, but I've not been able to find anything about it, its not mentioned on the HKS europe site. Anyone else come accross it?

I rang ND on friday with the intention of buying a wing mounted replacement intercooler. Apparently they won't be available for another 6 - 8 weeks. It should be a straight forward swap and i think just removing the cover underneath the front arch should give good enough access. I've also spoken to matt s who thinks greddy may do a wing mounted replacement, i'll let you know.

I'm still not sure how much benefit a wing mounted i/c will give... does the front mounted one take a lot of fitting (I'd love a fron one!), and will my insurance company start rubbing their grubby little hands with glee. I would ring them to find out, but they keep all your requests for quotes on record so they can check your car to see if you;ve been telling porkies when you stack it!!!!

I thought boost drop off at high revs was mainly a problem for the S13. Mine holds boost right up to the red line (and possibly a little bit beyond http://300zx.co.uk/200sx/ubb/frown.gif ).
It's really only useful if you up the boost pressure isn't it ? I'm thinking it might be possible to run normal 95 octane with a good intercooler, as keeping the intake temperaure down will help reduce detonation problems.
Hmmm.. before I spent a load of money on it, I'd consider a water injection system. I think you can get quite a good one for 500 quid, and then the intercooler becomes of little importance.
Nice to hear tube torque are branching out into intercoolers... they never tried to sell me one http://300zx.co.uk/200sx/ubb/frown.gif

Ofcourse the only problem with water injection is the insurance company will know unless the pump is well hidden.
