Annoying buzzing sound at 3000rpm ish - Any takers?

Have seen this posted in the General forum, and wanted to say that I also have this problem... And the posts in this forum do not disappear so quickly that I have to go hunting for them!!!

I notice it more with the Blitz SUS filter, but it not as often now the Blitz exhaust is fitted...

Have read in the thread that it is maybe something to do with the heatshield. It sounds more like a vibration than anything particulary nasty, but it just bugs me....

Did you fit the exhaust yourself? If you did then you'd have noticed all the heat shields around the cat and front pipe. It could easily be one of those. Otherwise it could also be one of the heat shields around the turbo and exhaust manifold. Try checking the bolts to see if they are coming loose.

Checking the exhaust downpipe shield is easy.

Obviously, only do this when the car is cold.
Lie down on your back on the left side of the car so your shouldrs are just a bit back from the front wheel. Reach under with your right arm and feel your way up the downpipe, you should come to a circlip thing. If there's any movement there thats where your noise is coming from.
Tightening it up can be a bit fiddly so I just took mine off.

I assume you fixed it, however on s14 there can be a annoying 2-3000rpm buzz that comes from the radio. the fix is to remove the radio and put some insulating foam strip across the top width of the radio about halfway back ( about 1" wide). Local Nissan dealer should have a bulletin on this.

Just thought I would revisit this thread and let you know what the noise was.

I have got a Blitz Super Sound dump valve, and the garage that fitted it, left the stock dump valve in place. Don't know if they blocked it or what, or if they are just fecking eidiots.

The stock DV was leaking under the boost pressure, which was causing the sound. Rare has blocked the stock DV and this sound has gone and I get waste gate chatter now too.

Kenny , my air vents/head unit sound are vibrating along with the passenger window. Need to sort these out soon. Thanks for the info.

I have a noise which apparently is coming from the RVM?? Any ideas on things which make a noise in this area? I'm sure its coming from the ceiling rather than the stereo or doors.

Kenny_s13, I have had that exact problem since I had the Hiper fitted. Is it a hard job to remove that part of the dash?

Dodgy windscreen seal? Have a look at the seal outside the car infront of the RVM. There is a little joiny thing. Could be that?

Not dificult at all, there are two securing screws at the bottom of the panel , which need to come out then it is held in by clips ,( pulls out ,gently does it mind you) once that is removed u need to insulate the radio from the metal bar that goes over the back of the radio- with a small foam strip. Ill see if i can get the bulletin and scan mail it to you.
