Hi,
No it's not broken thank god, but with all this hot weather it's taking a good beating, so I thought I'd check the oil and refrigerant. When I came to look under the bonnet I was a bit stuck ! what ? how ? where ? Found the compressor, and all the aircon pipes. Are those little thumb caps to bleed the system ?
Does anyone know where the oil and refrigerant goes ?
- oh yeah, and an aside, can I use any dexron ATF fluid to top up the power steering ?
Cheers,

Tom

WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAAAAAAAAAHHHHHH. Leave the air con alone unless you know what your doing. The refrigerant will burn your corneas if you are careless.

Leave this one to the pros my friend, you could seriously injure yourself. http://300zx.co.uk/200sx/ubb/eek.gif

Kinell mate, Dave is right , if its working ok -LEAVE IT ALONE!, or take it to an aircon specialist. Frozen/damaged eyeballs will definatly spoil your driving ability.

The thumb caps are for both vacuuming the system and entering the refrigerent, in this case 134a which is the same gas as used in domestic appliances. Its the ozone friendly replacement for R12, its odourless and pretty harmless unless you get it in your eyes as dave mentioned. But you will need specialist equipment to get the stuff into the system without entering any air, which will prevent the system working. Take it to someone who knows what there doing, but don't get ripped off, its a 5 minute job and the gas is relatively inexpensive in small quantaties, such as in a car !!

Phew... Thank god I didn't touch anything http://300zx.co.uk/200sx/ubb/smile.gif

Cheers guys... if it ain't broke don't fix it, and seeing as my clutch is starting to slip I probably can't afford to meddle with it anyway.

Thanks,

Tom
