Hello,

There's a drip of gear oil below my S14, so I want to check the levels in the (manual) gearbox and diff. I've checked the service manual, and it looks easy, but has anyone here done it? Is it as simple as it looks in the manual?
I'm a bit worried because changing from third->fourth gear always clashes - anyone else have this?

YEs, it's easy but you will need to get under the car with the car level to get an accurate reading.
That means 4 x axle stands or an MOT ramp
Undo the level check plugs and make sure the oil levels are up to the filler hole height.
Be certain to use the correct oil to top up now won't you!

While you're at it, drain the whole lot out and plonk some decent synthetic gear oil in there. It's not that expensive for the bother. I spent 30 quid on some synthetic stuff for the box a while back, sod-all in comparison to your engine oil changes or.. well petrol !

Checked it out last night, and it was low - took 500ml of oil to top up the gearbox.

The synthetic idea is a good one - I think I'll do that next weekend.
