Hi there

Anyone got any pics of the leather S14 front seats - Im thinking of getting some for my S13 and would like to see what they're like.

Any opinions would be great too!

Cheers

No pics but they're not too bad
Very basic with recline being the only adjustment and as with most cars, the head restraint is about 6" behind your head instead of just behind it
It must be difficult to make seats which can be sold in any part of the world to any size frame

Why not get S13 leather seats?

The S13 leather seats are quite rare, I think. Also, I've got a potential source of a couple of S14 seats and they fit straight in.

Do they hold you any better than the S13 seats?

Cheers

Jez,
In my humble opinion, the seats in the S14 are ok, they don't offer that much lateral support but I'm a fat git so don't tend to slide around much, I just wedge myself in!

As far as lumbar and thigh support goes, I think they could be better, I drove back to Essex from the south coast the other week and had a really stiff (ooer!) right leg at the end of the journey, although this could be due to the very light throttle pedal (going to try the fix posted elsewhere soon) or the fact that I'm 6'4" and my head scrapes the ceiling when I drive.

My advice, blag a ride in an S14 and see for yourself, or try the local Nissan dealer and have a sit in, or why not blag a test drive while you're at it. http://300zx.co.uk/200sx/ubb/biggrin.gif http://300zx.co.uk/200sx/ubb/biggrin.gif
If you're going to replace the seats try and see what other alternatives are available.

Good luck

Oi mate!

Your cars back to front!(nice colour though)

Gives me an idea though, source a drivers seat from the continent and hey presto, the bird stops complaining that she doesn't have lumbar support.

Maybe it's just me but I find the S14 drivers seat very comfortable. On both times I've taken it abroad (the last time driving 1200 miles in one day) I didn't have the slightest backache. http://300zx.co.uk/200sx/ubb/smile.gif

Just wish I could rest my head agaist the headrestraint http://300zx.co.uk/200sx/ubb/frown.gif

What's wrong with BMWs?

Image only I can assume as some real assholes own them

As far as I'm concerned they make some of the finest machinery going

All RWD and high build quality

Most BMW are driven by complete gits. There owners think they own the road and that all other road users are scum (when in fact that only applies to Saxo/Corsa drivers http://300zx.co.uk/200sx/ubb/biggrin.gif http://300zx.co.uk/200sx/ubb/biggrin.gif)

All BMWs (with the exception of the new M3) have a hairdressers image, are overpriced, and have no more ability than any other well sorted car.

Apart from that I love them and wish them peace and joy http://300zx.co.uk/200sx/ubb/biggrin.gif http://300zx.co.uk/200sx/ubb/biggrin.gif

Correct about the gits JB, but that's just unfortunate

Forget the drivers, we are talking cars here!

Also correct about the well soterd cars bit but there are very few well sorted run-of-the-mill cars available these days are there?

Lets see, we have European crap:
Vau***ll
F**d
R***r
C****en
R****lt
Pe***ot
F**t
A*fa
Au*i

Erm, none of those are sorted, just FWD boxes based on the same platform which leaves us with German and Jap

Lots of Jap stuff is Euro built and I'm still talking regular cars here, not sports

Most are FWD which we can rule out as that is cost cutting compromise crap. I can forgive FWD in small cars where space matters but big cars have no excuse for FWD

That leaves us with (including sports and regular) :

Skyline
200SX
MR2
MX5
Cappachino
Supra
3 series
5 series
7 series
Lexus
Merc

All these in my opinion should be considered good drivers cars for various reasons
As you may have guessed I am for RWD!

BMWs are often driven by ****s which is unfortunate but most 200SXs I see (see, not hear about as old people don't know how to use the net!!) are driven by old men but that doesn't put me off driving one!
I'd have a BMW if they were more fun and better value. At least BMW ONLY make RWD cars which is more than can be said for almost all the remaining above manufacturers!

I won't, and neither should you be, put off by 'typical' owners or the car's images.
You should judge a car only on it's driveability and capability

I have said my piece!

What is your problem? Surely modifing your motor is what it's all about, not some f*****g fashion show. Don't talk tosh. The 200sx is a superb motor - the build quality is second to none, they tune them up to 800bhp in japan. If your into BMWs & Vauxhall '****e, clear off to Max Power...

Wow! Dave, you seem to have the wrong end of the straw buddy!

Remember I own a 200SX and love it to bits!
BMW are good mainly for their love of RWD, which is more than can be said for most other manufacturers. And who said I like Vauxhall? I slagged them mate! Utter pants!

I was merely wondering why JB doesn't like them and it turned out he doesn't like the drivers rather than the cars which answered my question.

200SX build quality is very good but not as good as a BMW of late. Just do a door shut test to see. I AM NOT SAYING 200SXs ARE BAD! PLEASE REALISE THAT!

I will only ever own Japanese cars and probably only Nissan but I don't have tunnel vision like some people and am able to appreciate other cars. There are of course very few other decent cars out there to appreciate!! (Vauxhall definately NOT being one of them! Ford, Rover and Vauxhall are my most hated makes!!)

I hope you understand the point I am trying to get across - not to hate a car merely because of typical owners. You should however hate a car for bad design. Hmmmm?

davehill calm down. We're all entitled to our own opinion and there's no need to get cross with someone we don't agree with, especially a fellow 200 owner. This isn't the Corsa board after all. Humour and sarcasm are far better ways of dealing with disagreements http://300zx.co.uk/200sx/ubb/biggrin.gif

Goosegog
I think that image plays a very important part in car choice and there is just no way I could ever own a BMW because of that. I disagree with you over build quality also. I don't find BMs especially well put together when compared to Audi and some recent Saab products I have driven recently. I would say the S14 is reasonably put together but isn't in the same league as BMW shutline wise of door thunk wise. Both show the same amount of design flair thought (ie none http://300zx.co.uk/200sx/ubb/frown.gif )

My 2p...

I wouldn't say that nissan build quality is anything to write home about, I've just spent the last couple of weeks in Cologne, Germany where the majority of the taxis are Mercs. Even a 250k Merc rattles less than my 30k 200sx. I personally didn't buy a 200sx for the build quality (which in my opinion is poor, and I work in the motor industry (check my email address)), I bought it for the performance per pound.

Also there are plenty of cars that come well sorted from the factory, if you're prepared to pay for them. For example: Vauxhall VX220, Honda Integra Type R, Ford Racing Puma, Renaultsport Clio 172, Seat Leon 20VT, Audi RS4, the list goes on (not including the likes of Lotus, Westfield, Caterham and the big boys of Porsche, Ferrari, etc.)....

I'm not rying to have a dig at the car I love (200sx), but to be perfectly honest, its not the greatest car ever built, an no-one (in their right mind!) would claim that it is. For the money it's an awesome machine but I'd be surprised if anyone on this board would have chosen a 200sx as their dream car...

'tis true. The trim quality is awful compared to my old F-reg Honda.
The boot lid clangs like a 2CV, the boot carpet rolls itself into a small ball and jams itself behind the CD player (minor exaggeration) and all the plastics scratch very easily.
Oh and the boot hinges squash your luggage.

But who gives a toss about the boot ?

Ben

Agree with you about the S14 not being perfect but like you, I bought mine because it was great value for money compared to the oposition and gave a decent amount of power and a fun drive.

I looked hard at a Boxster (indeed the current Mrs JB still hasn't forgiven me for not getting one), and an Integra, but the Integra was FWD and I just wasn't interested (though it WAS a good car) and the Boxster was too small/expensive/pricey to run and the soft top bit really isn't suited to this country. It also was a good car and had been very well put together but wasn't my cup of tea at the time.

Agree with you about Mercs too but I think you'll find the newer ones leave a lot to be desired in terms of build for the price, especially compared to Audi/Porsche and even BMW.

No the 200SX isn't perfect (not by any means) but it suits me fine http://300zx.co.uk/200sx/ubb/biggrin.gif http://300zx.co.uk/200sx/ubb/biggrin.gif http://300zx.co.uk/200sx/ubb/biggrin.gif http://300zx.co.uk/200sx/ubb/biggrin.gif

Hey JB,
Just in reference to your signature (not the little arguement going on here http://300zx.co.uk/200sx/ubb/wink.gif ), did u hear bout the crash in Gloucester the other day, it is thought that an unmarked police car was chasuing a white escort and the manner in which the police were driving caused the the escort to crash and the two (twenty sumthing year old) people inside were killed instantly.
I think the car was stolen but still, the point being that the police were meant to reprimand car thieves as quickly and safely as poss, not by killing them.
Anyway, I'll let u get back to the other discussion.
