Who's fitted one and is (dis)pleased with it?

Is it worth the hassle? Does fuel consumption and emission really reduce? And does it improve the power in the lower revs?

It'd be cool if it really did all that! http://300zx.co.uk/200sx/ubb/biggrin.gif

TC,

I have just fitted and tuned mine. So far so good, the car pops less when changing gear and when coming off the throttle.

At the mo, I can;t tell you any more though. But will keep you posted.

They do appear to lower emissions, cos Paul got his car through an MOT by fitting one (Was failing on emissions).

Sounds cool!

Please do keep us all informed concerning the power increase/ fuel consumption decrease etc...

Cheers!

P.S. Did you get the Pipercross filter with it?

JohnD76

Don't get the pipercross, have heard bad things and you could have problems fitting it as it will only be able to point down, since it will be too close to the bonnet with the filter fitted.

The fuel economy so far 1 day http://300zx.co.uk/200sx/ubb/rolleyes.gif seems to have improved, but that could well be me imagining things.

Don't expect a huge/if noticeable increase in fuel economy, it worked for MY car and it smoothed out the cold running after I had the SE stage 2 chip fitted.

My car was fialing the emissions test due to the fuel pressure being raised, so don't go and buy this on my recomendation, as I said it worked on MY car.

But you can go and see my car on their site http://300zx.co.uk/200sx/ubb/biggrin.gif

I have an S14 with HKS power flow, Blitz backbox... no other performance parts ... should I get the ECOTEK valve then?

It saves a wee bit of fuel... (good reason to buy)

It is supposed to give more power in the lower revs, before the turbo kicks in.... is this true? Because that is what I really want it for!

TC,

the main reason I bought it was to try and lower the emissions, so I can get away with removing eiother of both cats and still get through an MOT. And for £40 I thought WTF.

I am not expecting a huge increase in performance, etc, simply because it stops working under boost.

Keeping my eye out for Shell Optimax now http://300zx.co.uk/200sx/ubb/smile.gif

Quick update:

Am using Shell Optimax now and that, with the Ecotek valve has more or less stopped the popping sound that the Zorst made when changing gear and coming off the throttle. (Pinking? Don;t know what this sounds like? Anyone? Or what it is for that matter, except I think it is also called Detonation?)

The car also sounds different, but that is probably me.. http://300zx.co.uk/200sx/ubb/biggrin.gif

Have only today filled up with Optimax, and have just done 27 MPG on last tank of Super, with Ecotek vavle fitted. Have been booting it everywhere too!! I am Very happy Chappy. http://300zx.co.uk/200sx/ubb/biggrin.gif

Car defo sounds quieter with the Optimax in it. Thumbs up from me http://300zx.co.uk/200sx/ubb/biggrin.gif

I ordered the ecotek jobby on thursday, how long did it take to arrive John?
I wish I hadn't ordered it, now it seems my front pads are knackered.

Bond,

They say allow 28 days, but mine arrived within a week.

Beware, the sound scares the poo out of you, wasn;t expecting it to sound like that, and nearly brought the bonnet down on me.

Can't really hear it when the bonnet is down. I would recommend it with high octane fuel to stop sometimes embarrasing pops from the Zorst.

Let me know what you think, and any effects it has one your 200, which is V nice BTW.

PS Pad wise, I got some Pagid pads from PTS in Luton, for £27 for the rear and £30ish for the front. They seem a lot better that the Nissan ones especially at £70 per pair!

Hope mine arrives that quickly as I need better fuel consumption at the mo. I think I'm gonna replace the discs as well as pads to save me another job in the future.
Cheers for compliment on car, your car looks quality, and must sound it as well with the Blitz zorst and DV. But I bet the roar of the Ecotek makes it sound the meanest!!
I'll let u know how it effects my car.

Cheers,

Ed

Ed,

Remember when you were a kid, and you used to try and make a sound by blowing through a blade of grass inbetween your 2 thumbs? (Or am I the only weirdo that tried this?)

Well, thats what the EcoTek sounds like (As well as a Donkey being kicked in the nuts), so I am quite glad that is isn;t as loud as the DV and zorst http://300zx.co.uk/200sx/ubb/biggrin.gif.

Try Shell Optimax too, it really has made my car sounds different. Bit quieter now, which is a good thing, or will be once the cat replacement pipe arrives. Still currently lost in post though http://300zx.co.uk/200sx/ubb/frown.gif

My ecotek arrived 2day! I only ordered it late thursday night, not bad service.
I fitted it after work and haven't had a proper chance to see how it drives as my girlfriend was with me 2nite but I didn't notice 2 much of a change when I took her home, but I can't really drive it properly til my new discs and pads are fitted.
I don't like the noise at all, it makes the car sound like its rattling and falling apart. I'm assuming that I fitted it correctly as it only seems to make the horrible noise when I come off the throttle, but its still louder and weirder than I thought. I'll have to see how it goes with the petrol consumption I suppose.
I might buy the silencer one day just to see if it makes a difference - but the £202 spent on Group N discs and greenstuff pads will do for this month I think.

PS. I do know what u mean by the grass thing http://300zx.co.uk/200sx/ubb/wink.gif

My car is currently in the garage getting TC and Boost gauge fitted. Have also asked them to RR tune it, give me a power run and also check the emissions sicne the car is now running on one cat, small one at that.

Will let you know more when I get the car back.

Got car back from garage and apparently it has passed the emissions test with just one cat, the one in the downpipe of the S14a.

May look at removing this one too, but since have got MOT this month, you will have to wait on the outcome for a little while.

And to be honest, I dont think the ecotek was working fully, since when I drove it home I couldn't hear it. Have just retuned it and it can be heard, this makes me think I can do away with the other cat too http://300zx.co.uk/200sx/ubb/smile.gif

Er, what's this ecotek valve thingy? It sounds familiar but I can't find it in any of my catalogues.

As my car is laid up I'm looking for low-ish cost mods to carry out which won't send my insurance sky high. The better mpg & lower ems sounds good, so would value any advice coz I'd like to remove my cat if possible.

Cheers

AtomicBoy,

It isn't so much a mode, the main reason I bought one was to see if I can get he car through an MOT with just 1 cat. Couls be arsed with swapping the cat back in, I know its not a lot of work, but I am lazy.

They make a racket, and I mean it, but it has stopping the car popping, probly running rich.

Well, according to my MOT, my car is now producing 0.09% Carbon Monoxide (limit is 0.5%) at natural idle and

<=0.00% at fast idle (limit 0.30%).
0 ppm HC (limit 200ppm vol) HydroCarbons?

Not bad eh?

That is with the cat in the downpipe only and an ecotek valve.

Don't know, but will try tell you when the car is up for its next MOT! http://300zx.co.uk/200sx/ubb/biggrin.gif

Does anyone know fi the HKS downpipe, replaces both Cats, or does it stop and manifold side on the 2nd Cat. If that makes any sense. What I am trying to say is:

Can I use the HKS downpipe with my existing Decat pipe?

The cat removes all the carbon monocide from the exhaust gasses and if the MOT garage doesn't fail you for not having both cats then he will fail you on CO emissions instead.

It is a requirement for all S14's (or any cars made after Aug 92) to have a cat fitted, but not S13's even though mine was made in 93 http://300zx.co.uk/200sx/ubb/tongue.gif

According to the literature with the valve it removes about 25% of carbon monoxide.

My Ecotek arrived today and I'll be fitting it myself, anyone got any decent pics/advice of fitting it?
