Do these performance sparkplugs make any difference? If they do, then they would be a nice budget performance mod. Or are they just hype?

Basically you need to run colder plugs if you've done any performance enhancing mods, such as filter and zorst as the engine runs hotter and you risk melting a plug (like me) and it could drop into the block causing lots of damage (like mine did) and then when you take it to be fixed they might not check to see if indeed it had dropped into the block (I'm saying nothing! http://300zx.co.uk/200sx/ubb/frown.gif http://300zx.co.uk/200sx/ubb/frown.gif)and then it could cost lots and lots of cash to sort out!

Oh, and make sure you get the right ones, cos the guys that did mine to start with, put the wrong bloody ones in!

Far too many mods to list here, it takes up far too much space and after being asked very nicely I've decided to shorten the sig (Is that a WOOHOO I hear??)
I, have NO SMELLY TREE, have no plans for a smelly tree and do not want a smelly tree, EVER!!!
Do not take offence to anything I say, even though I probably mean it. I am more than slightly mad, so just chill de feck oooot, ok!

No not at all http://300zx.co.uk/200sx/ubb/wink.gif

As Mr Blitzed said you may need to run different plugs to cope with any other mods you have made. E.g when you increase the boost you will need colder plugs to transfer heat away from the plugs quicker. Also as the boost levels go up it gets progressively 'harder' for the ignition system to produce the spark, so you may need to make the gap smaller.

This is where Iridium plugs etc help as they need less voltage to produce the spark, so you can have the gap at something like original spec, while running the higher boost. Note just fitting expensive plugs without doing anything else probably won't gain you a lot (except lightening your wallet a tad).

So what's the general consensus no platinum plugs then ?
Errm... these multiple electrode split fire things - what's the point in that then ? It's not like you're going to get a spark bridging the gap between the centre electrode and 3 ground electrodes simulateously is it ? It's going to arc across one at a time depending no which path requires the lowest ionisation energy.
Off on a tangent again ?

I use NGK platinum 7 rated plug, I can run a slightly bigger gap than the standard NGK plugs (@ 18psi) and the car feels smoother, plus I don't have to change them for 40000 miles http://300zx.co.uk/200sx/ubb/biggrin.gif
