Hi. New chap to the area here. I thought I'd ask a question, as you all seem friendly enough...

I'm taking delivery of my '95 (M) touring [86k miles] next weekend, and the garage has offered to fit a Thatcham 2 alarm at cost.

Is it worth it, or is the standard factory fitted alarm good enough ?

Also, anything else I should be wary of ?

Thanks for any help.

Michael.

If it's a Touring Spec S14 it should have a Thatcham 1 Alarm/Immobiliser installed as standard.

Thanks !! I guess I won't be needing to take them up on their kind offer

In fact all the 200sx s14 series, touring or not, are fitted with a Nissan's NATS CAT2 security system, as detailed on Thatcham's website; http://www.thatcham.org/. However I have had problems in the past trying to convince insurers of this fact. One would only quote me if I agreed to disable the Nissan system and fit an aftermarket CAT2 system in its place!

Are you sure the system is only a CAT2, I rang a Nissan Main Dealer and asked them what rating the Alarm was, they said it was a CAT1.

I could only get insurance if the car had a CAT1 system. I thought having an approved alarm & immobiliser was needed to make it a CAT1.

Bean,

Yeah you're right. I DID mean CAT1. I'm always getting those two numbers mixed up.

The Nissan factory/dealer fit NATS alarm is Thatcham Cat 1.
