View Full Version : Aircon temps

Following up Alan's concern on his effeciency of his aircon. I have just measured the air temp with/without aircon from the middle vent as I thought my aircon was performing poorly.
Result
No aircon 30C (it hot out there!)
Aircon 6.9C <> 8.8C
(compressor cutting in/out causing variance?)
This temp was much lower than I expected. What is the aircon temp supposed to be? Is this a typical result?

Yes, those are fairly normal temps. You should never get the air below 0°C as this would cause problems with the condensation freezing in the core preventing air flow
The compressor is meant to cut in and out to maintain core temperature but prevent freezing
An interesting point with S14 AC is that even with the AC apparantly switched off, it WILL be activated if demist is selected so don't run round on demist thinking you are saving fuel if the AC is switched off!

Oh bugger,
I drive around all the time with demist on, I wandered where all me fuel was going. Thanks for the info, maybe a year to late but never mind.
Cheers
Dave.

He he! Bad luck mate!
AC doesn't use a huge amount more fuel. Only a fair bit more at idle as the engine compensates with more throttle at idle to keep the revs up.
During the rest of the time, it makes the car 0.000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000 0001% slower so no real problem there
