The cheapest way to 250bhp??? Buy a bleed valve - good for 30-40 I'd say at a guess (approx £25), then fit a K&N 57i (£60), which is good for another 5-7ish (and makes a LOVELY sucking noise).

Just make sure you don't pop the engine with the bleed valve, as it keeps giving more power until something gives! You might need colder plugs too.

You'd be looking at somewhere between 230 and 245 with that lot (maybe... anyone else know something about bleed valves?)

Bleed valve are a crude way of upping the boost and they have a tendancy to create boost spikes, get an adjustable actuator...there safer.

My S14 must be around the 250 BHP mark (I hope) I've got a HKS Induction Kit, ND Turbo Actuator and a Super dragger exhaust (though there are pleanty of lower cost exhausts that would do the job). Also got a T28 Super Hybrid but the Standard Turbo on mine was good up to 70,000 miles.

Total Cost was around £2,300 ish

I haven't actually done it but IMO the two things to do would be to:

- up the boost. Can be done in a variety of ways. There is a cheap actuator available for about 40 quid where you replace the springs.

- use a cheap FM intercooler, eg. Saab or Volvo one as used by a couple of people on this list.

ND says that these two mods plus zorts and filter would give you 270bhp. So maybe you'd have 255-260 without the zorts and filter.

Don,

Welcome to the board.

I would recommend a performance Exhaust, induction kit, colder spark plugs and a boost upgrade. This should see you to more than 250hp. You might also want to get an air flow regulator, but I still haven't got one yet..

I got about 223hp and 206lbft torque with just Blitz exhaust and induction kit, with colder plugs and Blitz dump valve.

The blitz stuff is pricey, and there are plenty of cheaper options available.

When choosing an exhaust though, if you are planning for more than 300hp, go for one of the Japanese ones, HKS\Blitz\Trust\Apexi.

Depends how flush you are. Simon Norris knows his stuff and you will have the peace of mind as well, if it were me I would get Norris to do it (like I did!)

Get the kit delivered to yourself. You should be able to fit the Induction kit yourself. Get the exhaust fitted at a garage for about 20pounds.

Fitting the boost upgrade kit should be simple but the setup is bit trickier, you'll need a boost gauge or some sort of device to measure boost pressure when driving. You don't want to accidentally set the pressure to high and blow the engine!!!

Probably best off getting ND to fit the lot, a lot less hassle!!!!!!!!!

i take it youve had the nd240 fitted, whats it like? worth it or would you consider something else? moneys not a major prob for me, i just dont want a)to go too stupid(yet!!) b)spend daft money. im also gonna get some kosei rg titanium 17`` with 225/45/17 goddyear f1s, any feedback?? thanks to those helping.

I did not get the ND240 Kit, though I did get ND to fit everything except the induction kit (which I fitted myself :-))

This included:

Eibach springs
Skyline Discs and Calipers
Turbo Actuator (good value for the power increase)
Super Dragger
Hybrid T28

I run 18" wheels with 225/40/18 Eagle F1's. The 17" would probabbly make for a more comfortable ride over 18" wheels and the tyres will give you hell of a lot more grip over standard wheels/tyres. Take into account the size/style of wheel you are choosing as you may wanna upgrade the brakes at a later date!

What toys do they give you at work to play with by the way?

Ross,
slightly off topic but I'd like to go 18" wheels, did you get the speedo adjusted to take into account the larger wheel/tyre diameter?

I would go for a japanese exhaust, or you will just end up changing it when yiou decide you want more power.

Reeph,

The Diameter of the 18" wheels with 225/40/18 is the same as the 16" wheels with standard rubber, so no speedo recalibration needed.

There was a post about it on the old forum with a link to a website that calculates the amount of change...but take it from me, its fractions of a single MPH. Chances are that your speedo is out by more than that anyway!

Check the pics in my profile for the wheels.

Oh yes! http://300zx.co.uk/200sx/ubb/biggrin.gif

We are all meeting up in Bristol on Sunday for a rolling road day and we regularly have a meeting (once and month) at the Shire Horse Centre in Maindenhead. There is also the NTOC meeting on the 3rd Thursday of the month I think.

It is probably best if you pop along and see which you like the best.

Where are you based?

Sorry Don, I missed your last post. I have to say you are an old man compared to most on this board, at least youve got the right car though, haha. Non offence meant.

I had a couple of flights in a Gazelle when I was in the cadets (Army not Air), great fun.

As for my car...I think it will be around 240-250BHP I hope, which will be fairly good value for money. I will know for sure after Sunday!

I've had it for a year and a half now and was recently considering replacing it with a 993. After test driving a couple of cars though I decided to stick with the 200. Its just as much fun and as I've paid off the finance its cheap to run. The best thing is that because not a lot were sold (the BMW 328 was one of its main competitor I guess) I see more 911 and Boxsters on the road that 200SX's. The 200 also lends itself to tuning very well and is very reliable.

JohnD76,

While I've got you on the board mate, how does the MSTT work with the NATs alarm? Can you just set it as normal and walk away?

Also I will be able to help you out on Sunday, er....if you get my drift.

Cheers

yeah, ive had mine nearly 3 years. dont think ive ever been beaten(!!) but the cars well out of warranty and paid off so like you im looking to upgrade. i think its f**king awesome in the dry but i struggle going quick in wet, had a few moments!!! no dings though so not bad! http://300zx.co.uk/200sx/ubb/smile.gif

Wider tyres will sort that out mate. It made a huge difference when I changed mine, well worth getting bigger wheels for.

JohnD76

Ross,

The MSTT doesn't work with the NATS alarm. Well it does, but you have to wait for the engine to stop before arming the alarm.

You can get different alarms with build in turbo timers, but I don't think they will have all the functionality of the MSTT.

See you Sunday,

John.

Ross,
thanks for the info on the wheels mate, that is a real load off my mind. Now I just have to find out if I can change the wheels and not invalidate the Nissan warranty.

So, if I were to upgrade my actuator, (could I do this without suffering if I keep the standard i/c?), I would be seeing nearly 240bhp as I already have a filter and zorst!

I must phone my insurance company! Once I've paid for some lovely 245 width tyres (assuming they'll fit! I know they will on the back, but I'm not sure on the front)

Jackal,

Upping the boost is a good low cost mod, but it will obviously put more pressure on the Turbo. Thats one reason to get a more effective intercooler (and poss a Hybrid Turbo!?).

In Japan, the standard boost pressure is higher than in the UK, due to higher octane fuel (I think), but if you use 98 RON it should be OK. I'm running 17PSI (just over 1 Bar) and it seems to be fine. To be honest, your best bet would be to speak with one of the real Pistonheads like Tom_S14 or Dan_Blitzed (no offence guys)....or wait to have a chat with a few people on Sunday!

The T28 is good for 20psi+ so just set it at 18psi and have fun....I ran 18psi on my standard IC without any pinking problems.
