Whenever i brake i get steerng wheel wobble, which i would normally put down to warped disc's. However i recently renewed the dics's and fully stripped/cleaned the brake system. Whats going on??

I'd be interested in this, too, as I had new fronts 4 weeks ago and I get the wobblies just before coming to a stand.

Perhaps that's because I drink too much beer and eat too many pies!

Not realy, i had just fitted the mongoose so temptation got the better of on occasions, but even then i didn't drive like a loon. It has only just started doing it though, six months after changing the disc's and pads.

What sort of disks are they? I've heard of cheapo pattern disks made in turkey that warp after a few months.

I recently got a pair of 'bradi' disks from motosave for £80.00 so far they're fine.

Oh, and if u didn't go steady for the first 200 miles then I concur, goosed.

Oh pants!!

The disc's were cheap (and nasty), £70 from a jap car supplier, i bought them b4 finding this site, thats my only excuse.

Anyone know where i can get a late 200sx caliper carrier and disc's from? Nows about the time to upgrade to 280mm disc's me-thinks.

Goddammit!!

stop the press.

Are the later spec (bigger) S13 discs compatible with the 300zx calipers?

I would suspect its the calipers being seized on one or both sides, very prone to it, take the pads out and see if they slide top and bottom in and out and if not unseize them, you'll lose the vibrations and the pads will wear evenly !!!

Thanks for that caleini_350, i will stick message out for matt_s and get some quotes, thats some serious braking you've got there.

I prefer the idea of opposing pistons for the caliper's, rather than the sliding caliper design, although i will check the calipers for seizing just in case, olly200sx. Taa muchly.

hey hey whoa hey steady on, back that up a bit, eh eh

What's involved in the putting of 280mm discs on the pre-91 car? Will they just fit on? And I think chimp was wondering if the calipers will fit on. sounds good. Matt_s, you reading this? I'll be placing another order soon http://300zx.co.uk/200sx/ubb/wink.gif

I think the discs will be a straight swap. And will work on standard calipers.

It would be nice (and easy)if the 300zx calipers worked on them though, although I suspect the 300zx discs are larger again as you need at least 16" wheels.

I know for a fact that you can do it the other way round ie. fit the early smaller disk on a post '91 car cos the numpty fcker who sold me mine gave me the wrong ones.

After an hour of buggering about I changed one put the old disk in the box the new one came in and THEN realised it was too small.

Some poeple should be drowned at birth.

257mm discs for 280mm are a straight swap. however, you do need the appropriate caliper for each. the 300zx calipers bolt straight on but it is their width that means they foul the inside of the wheel. if you fit wheel spacers you can fit them with 15" wheels. The discs for the 300 calipers are the same size=280mm. you can also get thicker discs which will resist warping much better if you go tto the 300 calipers.

your brake wobble is probably due to the discs not sitting flat against the hub.
when you put your discs on did you use a dial indicator to see if they were running true,i didnt with mine they were okay for a while but know they shake like f*ck and apparently you cant do much about it know apart from changing the discs or skimming them ill just live with mine for know

I'm suffering the same.

OK until you semi-stand on them and then it's judder city.

It's very similar to when the ABS cuts in, except it happens at speeds where the ABS isn't used.

I'll have to have the wheels off to look more closely. If it's warpoed* disks then I don't understand it. I only had new brakes a few weeks back and it didn't happen until then. Mmmm...

*Warpoed: Different to warped. Warpoed is non-confirmed warpness. http://300zx.co.uk/200sx/ubb/biggrin.gif
