I have a 1987 200sx which has been sitting all winter! Started it up,
and it was working just fine! Had to boost it one day and it hasn't worked
since. It turns over, but just won't start! Our local dealer suggested the
Power Transistor, but that's working fine! What could have happened? Any
suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Thanx,
JB

does it have a spark at the plugs? A wise man in overalls once told me if an engine is intact, and its turning over then theres only two reasons why it wont start, its not getting fire or its not getting fuel. He was prolly right. Id start here, was it a cold winter? i hope you didnt crack the cylinder head. http://300zx.co.uk/200sx/ubb/frown.gif

if it dont start at all, meaning u get nothing when u turn the key. check the big fat grey fuse in your fuse box.

if this has blown then u aint getting nothing.

also the 3rd green fuse along. mine blew once and it cut power to all circuits and nothing would start.

fuses from Nissan cost £8 for 1 bloody fuse.

I'd suggest going to a breakers and AQUIRE them http://300zx.co.uk/200sx/ubb/wink.gif

check you fuel pump fuse too. as that could have blown.

When looking at them from the plastic viewer at the top of the fuse, the sometimes donw appear broken. The break at the base or along the side. If u need to swap any fuses over hen i suggest using the ABS/Electric window fuse.

Yup, it has spark! Fuel was my first thought! The fuse is fine and the fuel pump is working! Why else would it not be getting any/enough fuel??

Check you fuel pressure regulator, it may be faulty, it might not be allowing pressure to build up in the fuel rail.

JellyBeanz,

I have been supplied with a possible answer by my Red S13-owning friend 'The Goat'.

He had the same probs and it turns out that the inlet valves were 'completely knackered'.

He had them all replaced AND the cam-belt done at the same time (makes sense from a labour point-of-view) and the whole job cost £600.

Could this be the answer.......?

Proberly not related at all.. but I had problems starting my car with a fecked ECU, and it turned out to be a flooded engine when I replaced it and it still didn't start..

I had to take the fuel pump fuse out, and take the spark plugs out, and turn the b1tch over for a minute or so...

Started first time after this.. http://300zx.co.uk/200sx/ubb/smile.gif

How to start flooded car - Put foot on accelarator pedal, and push to floor. Turn engine over on starter motor untill it fires. No taking out plugs any anything like that. Sounds weird i know but it works, i've done this a more than a few times on past cars, and a couple of times on the 200sx.

Clong: This certainly didn't work with my car.. I had filled half the cylinder up with petrol trying to start the thing for a couple of days non-stop! the RAC man said they normally put a lighter to the entrance to the cylinder, but said if he'd done this with my engine then it would of made a mess!
BOOOM!

Anyway, nothing to do with the topic...

I had a similar problem. I was told to take out the fuel pump fuse turn it over until it starts. It will burn the fuel and clear the engine. Replace the fuse and it should be ok.
