Does anyone have any feed back on the ND intercooler priced at £375. What benefits would you expect from fitting one?

Best I can do is have a chat with Simon when he rings back to let me know my parts have arrived. I've ordered the front mounted IC amongst other bits, but I'll quiz him on it for you... might be ringing back in the next few days. I can't really seeing it being much good unless you plan on staying with a t25 turbo or something for a while.

the cheaper wing mounted intercooler is fine for the smaller turbo, i think it is effective up to 18psi, I spoke to Simon today about them, im not sure the FMIC is particularly good value but its as good as you will ever need if you have the cash lying around. A pace intercooler or uprated Saab FMIC is a few hundred quid cheaper which could go towards all sort of trick bits. For plain simplicity though the wing mount ND intercooler should I *think* allow 235bhp when coupled with exhaust and air filter, and therefore do nicely if your plans for improvements top there. If you do go for mega boost though, the £400 saving could be used to get a wicked water injection setup, and still have change left at £240. Wooohooo

Thanks for your replys. At the moment I have the K&N + the stage 1 chip. I had the uprated actuator installed then removed as the rolling road didn't think my engine and turbo would last 5 minutes without getting the exhaust and intercooler upgraded. I plan to get a mongoose and the intercooler then I might try and put the actuator back in also get my turbo refurbed or urgraded to a hybrid.

Hi Chimp

Could you give me more info on the pace intercooler. Is it front mounted or will it fit in the front wing. How much and where from.

Being pretty new to this forum, i'm kinda interested in this subject aswell. I want to get a better intercooler myself and i am not sure which one to get. I like the idea of the FMIC for future upgrades(T3 etc), but it is a fair bit of wedge, so i would like to know the alternatives and what sort of improvements you get.

Pace make a huge FMIC for RS500 cossies, that looks like it might fit, my mate has one and I have had a good look at it, I think you can get them for around 300-400 quid. I would not however, rule out the second hand saab intercooler (see other thread) and a water injection combo for those times when you simply must bury your right foot to the boards. :-)

I've looked into intercoolers and have found that the Evo6 intercooler should fit. This is my plan. You can get them for about 200-250 quid which isnt bad for a very good intercooler.

To be honest you can fit pretty much any IC you want (easier without air con..). As well as the saab 9000 I've also heard that the volvo 740 has a decent size IC, plus toyota supra is a common swap, along with iveco turbo daily truck (this was done by a guy in South Africa).

If you don't mind doing a bit of work yourself and possibly having your car off the road for a while then just buy the biggest second hand IC you can find, move the rad back a few inches, ditch the fan shroud, convert to electric fans (which will give a couple of extra bhp anyway), have some pipes made up by an exhaust company (such as powerflow) and buy the silicon connectors from someone like Demon Tweeks.

That way you'll save a packet and also have something a bit more individual.

John,
Did you find out what that watery liquid was dripping from under your car when I bought the exhaust off you last week.

Its not just about size, but how well it flows and how much temperature it takes out of the inlet charge !

Autospeed done a review on all the intercoolers you can get including apexi and HKS with some astonishing results :

In terms of outright airflow, the aftermarket Trust core convincingly proved to be the best in this group of fifteen. The best heatsink award goes to the Subaru STi intercooler (even without the added weight of its aluminium Y-pipe). But - most importantly - the overall winner must surely be the Mazda Series 4 and 6 RX7 intercoolers. Costing a mere $200 each, these flowed very well and had adequate heat-sinking abilities. On the same value-for-money basis, other honourable mentions are the Celica GT4 and the RX7 Series 5 intercoolers.

And the result pics to follow !!!

The Volvo 700/900 intercoolers are huuuuge for factory-fit items - they're very popular in the States with the front-drive Chrysler and Mustang SVO people. I can't imagine they cost much from the local scrappy either, although I think they use plastic end tanks which could be a problem if you're running mega boost (unless you're very handy with the tie wraps http://300zx.co.uk/200sx/ubb/smile.gif).

Hi Mannie

I haven't had time at the moment as I got married at the weekend. The water levels seem ok and no overheating.

They mysteriously change their policy? you can still view them if you go direct to their url, if you right click and select properties, copy/paste that link into IE/netscape. then if you come back, it has them in the browser cache so it shows them again. Strange. Annoying too as new images won't show up.
