Dear list,

Have junked my air-box in favour of a K&N filter kit. The question is that the pick-up from low revs is hesitant, but when 'on song' it is very good. The car is a cat'ed 94 with Janspeed exhaust. Lots of 'whiffling' noises when lifting off which I assume is 'waste gate chatter' - would apreciate any guidance.

Hi mate,
When I fitted mine I had a very slight version of whats happening to you, so I took it to be RR Tuned and they said that they had to clean the AFM and widen slightley some hole.

I didn't have the hesitation you describe but I certainly get the wastegate chatter, I would recommend cleaning the airflow meter you can remove the heater elements by the two screws and clean it with electrical cleaner but don't touch them or they'll break. Nathan I'd like to know which hole they opened up , because there's only two in there and the small one would upset the airflow readings !!! Just some thoughts.

Thanks chaps,

talking to Simon Norris and people at SE Parts, both also suggest the fuel pump as a culprit due to the high mileage (113k) - after reading the thread on pumps changing it would seem to be a good idea whatever I do. I think also that the cold air feed pipe for the K&N needs to be re-set as I could not work out AT ALL what part of the bodywork to cut out ('94 200) - but I'll also clean the AFM thingie.

Couldn't fit the 300 calipers as the wheels won't go back on - aaaaargh ! - need to fit spacers and new studs or bring forward the upgrade to the wheels (still noy sure whether 17s or 18s). Either way with new sub-frame bushes and ND replacement gas shocks and lowered springs it goes very very nicely indeed !

olly it was about 2 years ago so finding evidence is gonna be somewhat hard. they were porche tuning specialists and did have a moan that there was no point having a cone filter on as they recond it should have still air induction. Maybee they were talking aload of baloney, whatever they didnt charge me for it and it worked http://300zx.co.uk/200sx/ubb/biggrin.gif
