Im about to fit a FMIC to my S13. I have a model with the charcoal canister and its in the way.

Can I just remove it and block the pipes going to/from it? I think it just absorbs petrol vapour from the fuel tank. Am I right?

Help help would be great

Cheers
Jez

Have a look at the swedish chaps site on the saab intercooler thread. He fitted the saab fmic and moved the canister from one side to the other. Don't know waht it does, mine car is a pre face lift one, so it hasn't got one.

Cheers Clong, I saw the sweedish blokes site before - wondered if I could remove the canister rather than faffing around with making a bracket etc etc.

I moved mine to the very front of the car, and then found out it was f*cked anway, so ditch it dude.

Didnt think the S13 needs it's CAT or charcoal thing to pass the MOT as it's not listed in the book?

Yeah allegedly, the point I was trying to make was how the hell can he tell whether the can thing was knackered or not?

I'm yet to be MOTted, I'm not looking forward to it to say the least.

I was more confident when I have my A reg collinder Escort.

I think theres a diagnosic procedure in the manual to test the charcoal canister...

Do you know who said that the S13 isn't in the MOT book? Do you have a post '92 S13 with no CAT? Just wondering if I need the charcoal thing and CAT to pass MOT.

Need to know for sure...

I can find out a definative answer as I have a mate who is an MOT tester.

But if a car has a CAT at manufacture then it is illegal to remove it I think.

However assuming the MOT guy doesn't know whether it should have a CAT or not (cos it aint in the book) and it still passes the emmissions, which it should as it uses the 'no CAT' figures and it has a Lambda sensor, then he would have no reason to fail it.

Mine burns oil so it'd fail anyway. I have until November to fix it up.

Will do, may take a day or two to get an answer from him, I mailed him a couple of days ago about something and he's not replied yet.

There is a diagnostice procedure to find out if the canister is knackered, I will dig out the manual and email you it tonight. All the canister does is put vapour from the fuel tank into the inlet, so if it isn't connected then the mixture will be a touch leaner.

Jezz did you email me? if so what address did you use, I haven't recived anything from you, well I don't think I have

The S13 is not in the testers book or in any emissions computer, therefore it does not have a CAT test, if they fail on emmisions check that they have not used S14 tables, as that is entirely the wrong test. No the car is not listed. ( which is good for us)

Cheers Kenny! Realyl really hope you're right.

If the MOT guy argues it, I presume I'd just that its not in the book? Is there a special name for the book - just wondered because the more you seem to know about things the less likely they are to try and stitch you up.

Any more persuasive (sp??) info I shoud know?

Cheers
