Right lads, ever since I've had the car, it's done this, but only under certain circumstances, so I've kinda forgotten about it until now. When you back off the throttle at about 2,000 revs in either first or second gear, you get a loud metallic screechy rattly noise. It doesn't do it in any other gear though that I've noticed. Seeing as how it's due for it's MOT, I'd like a little reassurance that it's nothing serious.

If it only does it in certain gears, but at the same revs,it must be gearbox.God knows what though.

Don't know, it also makes a similar noise when turning corners sometimes? I wouldn't think it was the gearbox, but who knows?

have a look at the propshaft bearing the rubbery effort in the middle it may be wobling around at low prop revs ie 1st and second gear but may straighten up when it speeds up

Thanks for the advice, I'll be getting it stuck in for MOT in the next week or two, so I'll have a look before then.

i have a high resonating type noise coming from the rear left quarter, is this where ur noise is coming from or is it under the bonnet as the noise mine makes is at the same rpm levels and when de-celerating, figured it may be summit to do with the hyper muffler mountings as i have torn all the interior off to try and find a loose bolt in the boot.

At the moment it doesn't make any noises! http://300zx.co.uk/200sx/ubb/frown.gif

When it was making them, it'd be a quite loud noise from under the bonnet or under the car. Didn't really get a chance to look any further for it.
