Well, i bought my s13 in 2004 after seeing an old japanese drift clip on the net, i spent ages trying to find a white one as late as possible and as rust free as possible, finally i found one in kingston upon thames, it was mint and ran perfectly, unfortunately the oil filter came loose on the m25 on the way home and dumped oil the oil out killing the big ends and the turbo.

Bang went the keep it standard for a while thought:-

Engine spec:

Custom forged oversize pistons
aet custom spec turbo gt28/30 hybrid
ported cylinder head with 5 angle valve seat
cometic mls head gasket
os giken flywheel and twin plate clutch

modified throttle body

This was how it looked when i first put it back on the road, horrible wheels and really poor offset.

Had it rolling roaded, not bad for .85bar boost

This is where i ve got to now, the car is basically a rolling shell, i ve seam welded it and just started to plate the holes in the engine bay that i dont need any more, cage should hopefully be on its way soon.

The arches are jun and the rear spoiler is rocket bunny (lush) and will be painted body colour (when my painter mate gets off his a*se)

I m thinking i ll the roof black with some metal flake in it?

Oh aye, there's a company called karmotion which make some as well but you'd have to buy em from the US and get them over here.

Love screwed in / riveted over arches though every car should have them :D

The outer rims are for my rear wheels to make them 11j and minus offset, still waiting for the fronts

They are muuuch bigger than i imagined and super lush!!

Minor update:- got the wheels built up at last, they come out at 12j et -18, about half an inch wider than i expected
http://i40.photobucket.com/albums/e203/200sex/IMG_0034.jpg
http://i40.photobucket.com/albums/e203/200sex/IMG_0035.jpg

Test fitted the wheels on the back without the tyre so i can work out what width tyre to use

http://i40.photobucket.com/albums/e203/200sex/IMG_0040.jpg
http://i40.photobucket.com/albums/e203/200sex/IMG_0041.jpg

They work out half an inch proud of the arch extension, which means i need to stretch a 255/40 on the rim, took a fair bit of work but got it on, in the future i may use a 285 tyre and flare the rear qtr out half an inch as the 255 looks a bit too stretched.

Insprisational thread dude, am looking into some Dishu for my OZ splitrims

One thing you could probably answer is, am I right in saying if you had for example and et 40 rim and you added 2"/50mm, the offset would be -10 or does it work differently?

Yeah that's pretty much how it works, you don't measure to the outside of the rim though or so I be been led to believe, you measure to the highest point on the inside of the rim !r

Ok slight update time, finished seam welding the chassis rails under the car, wondering weather to make a section to put in where there is a gap? what do people think? i cant see it making a noticable difference but every little helps i suppose?

the cage has now been ordered and will be triangulated to the front struts and in front of the dash,

was a pain in the arse to get it on the ramp to take the brake/fuel lines off , as no weight in the front made the car try and fall off backwards:annoyed:

Pushed it into my mates workshop today so he can make the bulkhead a proper sealed firewall (and also pretty it up with some new paint), so pics i a week or so when it comes back to me for building up:thumbs:

Not quite, for every inch of dish you add, you take 12.5mm off the offset, so if you added an extra 2 inch of dish on say a 7" et40 rim you would get 9" et15 wheel.

Wheels are measured from the inner tyre bead to the inner tyre bead.

This car will be awesome when it's done. Loving the wheels! I'm an RS's whore :D

Oh and keep the stretch on the rears, 285s wont look as good :)

Got a bit more done this weekend, cut the front wings out behind where the jun fenders will sit, they were really floppy once cut so i took them over to GarysbodyKraft, and gary put a lip on the edge i cut, then rolled it back on itself which has stiffened it up a treat, and once the arch is on its stronger than standard!!!

M200sex

Cage will be going in in the next 2 weeks:(

I thinking of going straight out from the cage to the turrett, then back to the bulkhead towards the centre of the car like that :- I\ /I

Then some kind strut bracing, from strut to strut, going to use light thin wall steel tubing t45 i think its called? my mate will be doing that bit as he builds wrc shells for a living

Yep pretty much everything is in the way, i ve just sealed off the whole bulkhead bar the steering column and then i ll do the bracing, and then i ll shit my pants when i realise i cant fit anything back where it used to go,
i reckon the wiper motor wont be a problem, and as for the brakes i could run a remote master cylinder inside the bulkhead, i love a challenge:wack:

Update time: still no cage:cry: so i did a few bits on the front end, i really wanted the loom for the engine bay to be out the way of the tyres, as i rubbed through it both sides last time out at the nurburgring, so i cut some holes at the rear and front of the chassis rails and run the loom inside them, you can sort of see what i ve done in some of the pics, but the camera on my iphone is pap!!

Cheers Matt, I m thinking of going for a slightly bigger dish on the front though, to fill the arch a bit more and because it looks weak next to the stupidly big rears :wack: !

Yeah same yard as Garys Bodycraft, he did all my paint and smoothing work on the engine bay, hows your s14 going ?

good man im planning to go with either omex 500/600...without looking back through the thread wat turbo/injectors do you run??? I will initially be running with a gt28/30 hybrid that i have on there at the moment and 440cc injectors, but i have a gt3071r and 800cc injectors that will go on once the car has run on the omex for a while!!

are you planning to run launch control/full throttle gear change etc?? Deffo going full throttle gear change, and i might try anti lag for a while too, depends how much heat it starts putting through the exhaust/turbo.

Not really much of an update, lowered the coilovers more by taking out all the locking collars bar one, still not low enough for me though, the camber has gone spaz at the back now, looks about 3 degrees so i ll sort that when i ve got time again, i ve re done the bonnet too, i filled in all the holes from the rivets that i put in 2 years ago then got gary (gm bodygraft) to paint it, i re drilled all the holes evenly this time and riveted it back on, well pleased with it,

only thing left to do now is map it and get some headlights sorted!! whoop the end is near.

After driving the car in and out the workshop a few times i realised that with the seat so far back and so low, the gear lever was too far away from me, so i decided to make a new one using a lever from a kia 7 seater thing (about all the piles of cack are good for):-

Ok i finally got some enthusiasm back for the car, its now finally running perfectly on the omex management, all my problems were due to an out of balance crank pulley:wack:

I ve decided to ditch the supermade lights too for now as they just wont fit well enough for my standards, and now the pop ups are back in i kinda like em:

Looking good dude, I see you've done something very similar to what I'm going to have to do with my track car with the gearstick. I planned on just cutting the shifter in half and welding a piece in sort of like this: -|_ (accept thats turned on its side.
Just wondered if you'd had a chance to drive it much to see how it feels changing gear as I didn't want to go too far and leave an awkward shift.

zeppelin101
17-08-2009, 17:50
Well my aim is similar to yours for the most part - but it will inevitably end up a weekend track toy so I'll be doing stuff from that perspective. The turrets is a good mention, I'd be looking at sorting the actual suspension geometry and mounting points in that instance anyway - tbh I'd want to look into it regardless.

I love the neo-retro look so if I achieve that in any way possible I'll be happy :D

Yours is just kick ass though, should be quite the weapon once it's mapped :)

japdrifter
02-10-2009, 14:21
well if your running stiff suspension the exhuast scrapes and gets knock around more often then not pulling and pushing it about...as the turbo is connected to the exhaust that also moves around causing the gaskets to blow:thumbs:

I think function over form for canards. If they've solved the problem they've solved the problem, so what's the problem? lol ;)

EDIT: It just 'looks' like they are mounted too high so don't quite fit in with the bodykit, if your after looks. I'd rather have a planted front end however!

Love the wheels :-)

Yes but ultimately you want to reduce frontal lift by stopping air getting under the wheels, under the front ect to regain a planted feel. Creating down force and increasing drag isn't ideal :(

pffff, canards to make the front end planted? just un-plant the other end to make it feel better you nancy:D

I finally got an alternator tensioner for you too!

It will be eventually dude, but its got to be a spastic v8.... ls7 etc which i cant afford at the moment so sr with a gt2876r will have to suffice at the moment i m afraid

shh you, keeping the front planted is allowing 80-90mph power slides out of the longer bends which obviously = win :wack:

Ok made some progress on the engine front today but not enough to get it on track tomorrow at castle coombe:cry:
Anyways, skimmed the head flat again and re lapped the valves as the head was so warped it had distorted the seats.http://i40.photobucket.com/albums/e203/200sex/IMG_0721.jpg

I wanted to use the injectors from the ca as they are 740cc and i know they flow evenly so i ordered a top feed fuel rail for the sr20 manifold and all the assorted ally fittings to make it look posh, also ordered a remote fuel pressure reg to go with it, unfortunately the fuel rail needs a fair bit of modding to make workas its designed for the 180sx manifold.

after seeing quite a few customer cars with leaky sensor take off plates i ordered myself a greddy sandwhich plate which looks lush, but worth £70 ???http://i40.photobucket.com/albums/e203/200sex/IMG_0723.jpg

Just got the final connecting up to do now and fab up a bracket to hold the crank sensor for the omex (which is proving to be a very reliable solution ecu wise i m extremely impressed considering so many other so called tuners slag it off).

/\/\/\ Pics of all the fabrication needed to get the top feed injector rail to work, i m assuming the rail was originally designed to fit the 180sx low mount manifold?? any ways just waiting for a spacer plate to be made to go between the 2 sections of the manifold now then mapping woooo

I feel great and bad. I didn't realise the head had distorted quite badly dude :( Glad it's turned out okay though and it really was just that!

Top work on the fabricated rail fixings though, that's mint!!

Yes definately that was the idea from the start but i got impatient and just wanted it running again, i ve started making a new loom with all relays/fuses on a board inside the car, i probably wont get it in until winter now as i want to do at least another 5 trackdays and a trip to spa hopefully

I finally got some time to get back on with my own car, so i decided to order a mazworks manifold spacer plate rather than make something up and i m not dissapointed, the quality is amazing, we got some brackets tagged onto the fuel rail too and got that fitted up, i also fitted the new fuel pressure regulator which looks cool .

Now for the bad news, when i built the car up i spent alot of time decided where to put the fuel lines, eventually opting to run them in the car, i spoke to a well known hose supplier about my requirements for fuel line and was advised to buy some very expensive teflon lined braided fuel hose, however when i was fitting the fpr i noticed the fuel lines were a bit inflexible and on closer inspection were cracked and would snap if you tried to bend them:eek:, shocked as i had been driving round bedford autodrome all day with fuel at 3bar next to me , vet unimpressd so i m now going to fit solid copper fule lines which look pap but cant fail :ghey:

Ok small update although alot has happened:

Sr20 number 1 died due to oil surge and when i took it out i decided to get rid of the top mount injector idea and go with some sard 850cc side mounts and a circuit sports fuel rail, i also went a different route with the turbo but i'll put some pics of that up later on
