So, as you probably all know by now after my banging on about it...
I bought an S15, Nicely's S15. Here is was as I got it :)

It's not so easy to see in those pics, but the coilovers have also now been changed over to driftworks ones :)

i think the most diplomatic response to that question is that the apex stuff seemed much more track orientated, and having tried the dw stuff, it's ride suits me better.

The engine will be going to justbutts by the looks of things :)
It's not all about spring rates to be honest. I think the spring rate on the suspension on the car currently are probably fine, and the damping would be ok for somebody who is surrounded by good roads, or is planning on doing drift / track stuff. It's just a bit bouncy for me, and having tried others cars with the DW stuff, it's a firm ride, but the damping is just a bit more to my taste :)
At the end of the day these cars are fun, and need to be to each of our likings to make them fun for us. What I find fun in terms of suspension and brakes and engines will not be fun to everybody I suspect! This is why there is a choice of products on the market ;)

Small update shaped post....
Things have been coming along nicely :)
I have sold the wheels and brakes, in exchange for some bigger versions of both :)
Engine is being test fitted this week in order to measure up and make the custom mounts, then the bay is being painted, then the engine fitted over the coming weeks.
Rocker covers and the likes are being painted car coloured too.
I hope to have some pictures for you and for me, up soon :) Mike is a busy chap, and so hasn't had a spare moment to get pictures to me... but needless to say, progress is coming along as per the above, and it's going to be great :D
Interesing project :thumbs: I am subscribed and watching ;)

Car is going for some paint on Friday, then hopefully will be back early next week, when bits will start being fitted on a permenant basis :D

Only paint happening is engine bay, sorry to disappoint.
If the car gets paint in the future, it'll just be to restore condition. I am not really one for body kits and stuff I have to admit... Although the littleknocks S15 is :smitten:
I hope to get some pics up soon, but I am quite a way from the car, and am relying on one very busy Buffy to get the pics, and all you chaps who have visited him have failed me on the picture front :P
Currently it's looking a bit sad, with scabby 300ZX wheels and no front brakes... but it will improve :D

Info on the calipers, they are Brembo 8 pots found on the AMG mercs inc the new C63 AMG :D Each calipers has 4 pads (2 in each half), The pistons are staggered per pad so 39mm at the leading edge of the pad and a 35mm piston at the trailing half of the pad, nice :)
Anyhow I hope your pleased with them Ben, I'll get them suited to your car very soon :) I'll also work out your braking force soon :)

Rears are TBC, current Z32s with oversized pads and discs, but will be 4 pots at some point :)

I didn't think the calipers looked that big on the picture with the pepsi bottle......... Untill I read it was a 2L one. I wrongly assumed it was a 50cl bottle. That's some HUGE brakes you've got there. :thumbs:

I've kept that crappy car and done my nuts on it because I like the looks, I dont want to totally ruin them :smash:

I dont drive fast so its not really an issue, its only had the boost controller switched on for 5 minutes since mapping and that was on low boost, and it was still too much :cry:
I'll stick to slowriding it like a girl for now, its only my work hack anyway, doesnt need mahoosive brakes :D

Well its still 0.8 bar actuator so its not all that bad, once it actually works without stinking of petrol I may try turning the boost controller on again, maybe :D
Just need the problems diagnosed and sorted :nod:
I want to buy a daily driver but then I'll never drive the sx :wack:

Somebody is selling the perfect daily driver for you in "other cars for sale", a 106 Diesel. They're as cheap as cars can be to run and insure, like my AX diesel. Saves maximum money which can then be wasted on 200s :D

Those brakes are rediculous. The ones that came on the s14 i bought form you cut a groove through the standard wheels. You may as just wrap a tyre around the brakes and hope for the best, what wheels will fit over those?!

The lengths I went to today... I even called Apex and caught Michael on his way out, and he sighted data protection at me, to not tell me if he'd sent you an oil cooler.
I was just starting to worry when you dropped me a nice happy text, then clearly read through all my other texts and replied to those too :D
I am nice and happy now. No car for holiday, but maybe I'll be able to pick it up on the way home.
Failing that, I have 2 more days holiday to use before the end of the year, so I am flexible now :)
I am told the brakes are now on, and fit (just - thanks Jules :wack:) and I am gathering from the plans for next week, the engine has reached the bay too :D

Are you not concerned about the extra weight of the RB and the un sprung weight of the new brakes affecting the handling.?
The brakes will be fine he was running just a little be smaller ones before of which i have the next kit down from that and no problems on track

A little, but I reckon it'll be fine. It's going to be a road car, and a fun one, with occasional track fun, not a racer, so I think it'll be great :D
I ordered the cooler kit, but then it was unordered as there were fitment issues with the RB IIRC, which isn't a given as I forget all sorts of crap...
You found a filter relocation thingy (need to talk about placement for that... as I'd like a BMC stopper if possible ;)) but I wasn't sure which bits to order to make it all go together.
One thing that does keep amazing me is that you must have a bunch of other customers who hoard stuff like me, as you always put your hand on just the right bits :D It's brilliant, it's never game over because of a problem, it's a messaging saying had a problem, found a solution, is that ok? :D It's ace!

lol, I think gold would suit blue though!?
The other gtrs need refurbing so will be available in 2011, may keep them as track wheels although not sure they'll be much point in using them once every 4 years :wack:
the subaru colour scheme is growing on me a little :nod: just need some yellow 555 stickers now :thumbs:
You never told me you had cancelled the order for the cooler :confused: I think I still have a 19row -10 oil cooler and a relocation head somewhere :) I'll find suitable positions for both and get some hoses made up to suit :thumbs:

Oil cooler can go where the WMIC used to live :) AC condeser is the right cnut :annoyed:

DON'T DO ANYTHING WITH THE HEADLIGHTS!!!! (Unless you paint the entire car a different color). Clearcorners.com does an amazing job with lighting fixtures, so tampering it will be a sin! lol I'll be following this thread too. Cheers!

Gah, well, 1 minute my hopes are up.... the next they're dashed.
Mike may well have the car ready for 22/12
But my work wont let me have the time off, as we'll be too busy 3 days before christmas doing not all that much for them to let me have the day off. I have been pushed into having next tuesday and monday off, they're the only days allowed. Last call for booking holidays was given while I was away, but that's just tough.
It's not like they knew this was important to me or anything, or that i'd waiting long enough... I only talked about getting my car back virtually every day. When I was told I could have the day off I was so angry , had no idea quite how emotional I had become about the whole thing!
Hopefully Mike will be able to leave it with Jez, or it'll be done fractionally before so I can go up with my parents on Sunday when they leave here, and they can drop me there on the way home to pick it up.
Really unimpressed today, was on a happy high for all of about 1/2 hour before they told me that :(
Big :thumbs: to Mike though, really needed that update to get me focussed again, and also the promise of pictures coming online always helps :D Hopefully we'll be able to share them on here in the next few days :D

I had to remove the right hand rocker cover as the wiring wouldn't fit behind with it on :annoyed: the engine is as far back as possible in the bay though :cool:

Power wise, something over 400 maybe? I want decent power, but I dont want to get my hopes too high, as I know very little about these engines over and above the fact I wanted one :wack:

we all know the CA is a far better engine :D

Went for the wheels because they're light and strong, and because Jules measured them and said there was lots of brakes clearance... and they didn't look bright gold in the pictures!

Also, I wont rattle can them, as the finish wouldn't last, and half painted wheels are gash. I'll just get used to them or sell them. For the time being they're round with good tyres, so I'll be ok! It was more the clearance that wasn't quite measured right!

Will be interesting to see how it puts the power down. Especially with the weight distribution. I only know of one other RB26 S15 (not personally lol) - the Tein Time Attack S15. And they spent a a fair bit of time on fabrication to sit the block further back.

Blimey, that's stunning! I know my engine is as far back as can be without taking a grinder to the bulkhead with venom! I am sure i'll be happy with it, it cant weigh that much more, if I do some jigging about with moving the battery to the boot, and fit composit panels, I reckon it wont be far off....
And the power should make up for any shortcomings :) Or I hope it will at least...

Check out some of the other pics, they literally stripped it down to a bare shell then got busy with a grinder and support bars.

I'd look at the possiblity of going for wide fenders on the rear, just to hide some 265s or something similar. Aslong as you dont mind moving away from the stock look. But I always say everything can be done tastefully!

It was just parked up opposite the garage, didn't really get too much of a good look at it, didn't see under the bonnet anyway, just saw an s15 in that lush colour, stood next to it pointing at it, saying 'get me that!!!' :smitten:

I'd love to. Really quite hoping it arrives tbh, pinning quite a lot on it cheering me up.
I have failed to get the car to Ben again :(. Had a small oil leak yesterday which resulted in me having to strip all the front of the engine again to change a cam oil seal, wasn't a serious leak but it was still not good enough :no:
cranked it again to build oil pressure (came up pretty quickly) and topped up the oil, there's now over 6 ltrs in it, a good thing :nod: Went for a start, got fuel pressure, got live to the injectors, but no spark :annoyed: a little bit of bodging and I then had a spark (and a new set of plugs):thumbs: She spluttered into life :D, I'll try and get a vid later after I've redone a bit of wiring to sort the bodge :)
Got a list together now of jobs remaining to be done, all small jobs, but it all takes time :nod:
1. sort out the coil wiring bodge
2. plumb in boost controller
3. refit rad and fill with coolant
4. reconnect Defi wiring
5. Rebleed clutch and adjust peddle hight if needed
6. refit front bumper
7. refit garage defend cooling panel
8. arch liners
9. set coilover height
10. anything else that crops up along the way :rolleyes:
The newest, new planned delivery date is now 26/12/08.
And all you asking for pics, fcuk that, I need to get the car working first ;)

I just wish the car would behave, and thus let itself be finished without throwing any more spanners in the works...
I would guess the mapping could possibly be moved a little if needed, although obviously with all the work going into it, it's no secret sooner is better as far as I am concerned ;)
