"did it not dent the side of the car when it was on the tyres, i was thinking of doing that to mine next year to clean up the underside"

Nope, its fine, reasonably sturdy too.theyre tractor tyres so much bigger than normal:)

"That couldn't of been easy to get your car on it's side like that"

Yep,only took 2 people, they just lifted it up an flipped it over, remember it has no interior bar some of whats under the dashboard,no engine ,no gearbox etc and is pretty much stripped.

kingj
03-08-2008, 08:50
another little pic for you:) Its taken hours with a wire brush removing the surface rust, but thats all it is happily SURFACE:) no cutting holes and welding for me:clap:

2.wire brush and hammerite fuel tank
3.strip rear subframe ready for sand blasting and bin shitty standard arms
4.get bushes out of rear subframe ready for new ones(this will probably take longest ive been told:wack:)

kingj
05-08-2008, 13:24

:)Only a little update today, the subframe is back from the shotblasters and ready to be painted:nod: can decide whether to do it silver od black? silver would be good but Ive done the front black so it wouldnt match, but then as long as I do it all silver and black I think it would look cool??? I havent decide yet but Im open to suggestions

Quite a few of the more modern cars, such as BMW, seem to have silver-coloured suspension components. I think that makes them stand out and if you like that kind of thing I guess that's good. Personally I think it makes it look ever so odd.

I say stick with black

kingj
10-08-2008, 05:50
Thanks for you imput nene:) Im thinking the same tbh,I cant be bothered to take all the front subframe off,get it shotblasted and then paint it silver to match:wack: Thanks also to you scotty for your kind words:thumbs: Im working 13 hour night shifts for the next 5 days but Il update as and when I can.

kingj

The elbow and turbo intake flange are for sale though as I dont need them (turbo came with intake flange already and Ive got a turbo elbow and manifold coming from DW along with an ally rear subframe bush set in the next few days:) ) Hopefully my next updates later in the week will be more exciting!!

22-08-2008, 18:14
Well I finished work at 645am this morning and managed to start work on the car at 715am:wack: got a fair bit done, luckily my friend (Jay)came round at 9 who is a lot more technically minded than I:D we swapped the backplate over from my s13 diff to the s14a one and I painted it up silver,we then removed the bushes and sleeves from my recently shotblasted rear subframe(what a cnut) and fitted my alloy DW bushes after it had been painted of course:)

cnuts in question:mad:

http://i114.photobucket.com/albums/n277/kingj1983/S13%20REBUILD/arseholes.jpg

however we stumbled across a problen when fittting the only polybushes on the car:wack: they go in the rear hub knuckles and are from apex but we didnt know whether we were supposed to remove the sleeves to make them fit as they dont come with any others?? and I have no idea how they will ever get in ther with the lip they have anyway:confused: any help would be appreciated

here is a quick pic of the finished rear subframe

kingj
22-08-2008, 18:25
And another quick pic of the diff ready to go in it:) hopefully all being well I will get the whole back subframe together over the weekend and back on the car...meaning it doesnt have to stay on its side anymore:wack: and will be arse down face up for the first time in a month:rolleyes: got some more goodies to look forward too aswell:nod: hope your all enjoying my thread.J:thumbs:

kingj
28-08-2008, 10:55
A little bit of progress for you guys,Im having trouble with the new poly bushes into the rear hub knuckles:rolleyes: bloody metal sleeves again:mad: but I have also painted up my petrol tank silver which looks spangley and should protect it from rust!

http://i114.photobucket.com/albums/n277/kingj1983/silverpetroltank.jpg

and I also ordered some DW:Plug: solid alloy diff bushes as when I came to fit the s14 diff found I couldnt:wack: does anyone know if the standard s13 bolts will fit through the alloy bushes or will I have to order some S14 ones from nissan?

kingj
28-08-2008, 10:57
Anyway, hope to update the thread later over the next couple of days when my parts have arrived and ive got the subframe finally sorted:rolleyes: hope you guys are enjoying it and Il see you soon.J:)

IKRAM
28-08-2008, 12:42

kingj
28-08-2008, 21:57

Hello scotty mate:) (shamelessly cut&paste from other thread)Ive got a fully lightened and balanced engine with

garrett GT28RS turbo
nismo 555 injectors
driftworks stainless mani and elbow
fmic
z32 afm
ca18de inlet cam
apex 3" downpipe and exhaust with decat
wiseco pistons

Then probably get a custom H-Dev remap,I have an omex 600 ecu and loom but I think its going to be more hassle than its worth tbh. However I think I may have made a mistake choosing the engineering firm to do the work on my engine:cry: as other on a thread on here have had there engine go tits up once there actually running in(a stage Im not at yet:wack:).You have a PM by the way;-)

Scotty_s13
02-09-2008, 09:07

kingj
02-09-2008, 09:26
I dont know?? they are just standard ca18det oil and water pumps direct from nissan, thought N1 was an rb26dett thing:confused:

kingj
08-09-2008, 13:41
Now all I need to do is get it back on the car, which when my brother gets home from work in an hour or so will be done (he just doesnt know it yet). He'll probably want to work on his valver but I think his time can be better spent:wack: Then the real fun begins:)

kingj
08-09-2008, 19:44
Bit of an update, but a bit:cry: at the same time.We got the subframe back on(it was a cnut by the way) but now its back on Ive realised that the solid diff bushes are fitted wrong:rolleyes::annoyed: I did it myself and looking at it now I dont know how I f**ked it up, but I have:(. Il update with pics tommorow as Im off to the pub to sulk now but I'll just have to take the diff off tommorow and prise the solid bushes out and hope they are salvageable.Feeling a bit down tbh and wondering if its all worth it.J

kingj
09-09-2008, 18:53

hi matey this is looking mint, the subby looks well tasty in black and orange

kev

kingj
10-09-2008, 09:48
Thanks dude,I am happy with it but dont want any more orange on the car as If the car ends up orange, black and white it wont be too original will it:wack: I can handle a bit of orange under the car though. Its a slow process but Il get there in the end:nod: Thanks for your encouragement too mate.It helps and its nice to get a bit of support:)

swiftmini
10-09-2008, 10:22
I dunno!!! orange is my fav, 2 of my miini's were orange and black.

keep up good work.

kev

kingj
10-09-2008, 11:07
Its not that I dont like orange, just that DW have kinda made it 'theirs' if you know what I mean regarding drift cars. And the fact that all cars look better in white of course:D

Sphinx
10-09-2008, 13:02
I love the idea of tipping the car on it's side like that :D Where do you plan to support it when tipping it back into it's wheels (I assume you're not going for the Top Gear style push and drop technique)
Also, a bit of a strange question but does anyone know why Nissan missed that section of chassis rail on the NSR piece?!

kingj
10-09-2008, 14:48
"Where do you plan to support it when tipping it back into it's wheels (I assume you're not going for the Top Gear style push and drop technique)"

Erm sort of:wack: basically my bro pushes from roof side of the car whilst me and jay(mate) support the weight of the car on the way down as slow as possible(not as heavy as you think),and as it gets at a 45 degreeish angle(when it does get as heavy as you would think) my other mate matt is waiting with the forklift to "catch it" he then lowers it fully onto its wheels(with a plank of wood on the forks so as not to damage the bottom of the car) and hey presto its on its wheels.Just reverse procedure to get it back up again:nod: dumb thing ids I have a 2 poster ramp but its not wired in yet:rolleyes:

And I have no idea why nissan missed that part of the chassis rail? was thinking exactly the same thing yesterday myself.

kingj
10-09-2008, 18:36
Right, had another good day on the car today, got it all sorted underneath as my s14 diff bolts arrived from PPS:)

Half way there

http://i114.photobucket.com/albums/n277/kingj1983/S13%20REBUILD/today.jpg

back on its wheels:D

http://i114.photobucket.com/albums/n277/kingj1983/S13%20REBUILD/today2.jpg

gave the barn a tidy up and clean

http://i114.photobucket.com/albums/n277/kingj1983/S13%20REBUILD/today5.jpg

Now she's back on all four wheels I can finish prepping the inside and engine bay ready for paint. My friend says he should be able to do it next week aslong as his car is done in time to be mapped saturday and he doesnt get any work booked in for next week.Inside the car is nearly ready tbh,so just the engine bay really.

Currently looks like this inside

Nice work chap

Any tips for getting the car to stay firmly on its side ? Im planning on doing it outside and am worried about the windy conditions etc :ghey:

kingj
25-09-2008, 23:20
Well I had a ton bag of fertiliser seed just behind it incase it fell back but thats not available to everyone!!.Even with my love of flounting health and safety regs I dont know if doing it outside would be a wise move as there are a lot more factors to worry about than I had in the barn:nod: that said it was easy to tip back and forward on its side and surprisingly stable, however a medium wind hitting the whole surface area of would probably of ended in tears as would have applied alot more pressure than me and a wire drill:D.All I can think would be to get it on its side and then put a post covered in something soft(foam/bags) at both ends and either side to support it should it go.Have you stripped your car of engine and interior?

Paulpen
26-09-2008, 18:31
Yea engine, box, frames, doors etc off - just has glass really.

I could prob get it up on its side on tyres and possibly wedge the underneath side but not sure how to wedge the roof side :annoyed:

kingj
26-09-2008, 19:48
how about puting something front and back both ends to stop it rocking? you dont have to use the posts like I suggested if they arent available, what sort of surface ar you doing it on? concrete, tarmac grass?

Paulpen
26-09-2008, 20:01
I can get hold of most things

Looks like the surface is very hard soil with a thin layer of chipping on it.

debating finding something to strap the roof side to but once again what part of the car do I strap it round ?!

:annoyed::furious:

kingj
26-09-2008, 20:20
Seriously dude I would just put it on its side on some tyres and then put supporting posts in the ground really close to the body(1 front subby,1bonnet,1 rear subby,1 boot) that way it cant move about:no: if its in the elements you can just use some tarpaulin to cover it or whatever when your not working on it.J

Paulpen
26-09-2008, 20:23
Very true chap - ill give it a go when I get to the stage and see how it goes

kingj
26-09-2008, 20:28
Let me know how you get on mate:thumbs: its what I would of done if doing it on a earth surface....dont think the old man would have been too chuffed with me digging holes into his concrete floor to put posts in though:wack:

kingj
27-09-2008, 17:15
Well a nice bit of progress today:) I finished work at 630am this morning and got straight home to work on the car:nod: my friend Jay came round to help about 10am and between us(mostly him tbh:wack:) we managed to make get the cabin of the car prepped for paint:D from looking like this

http://i114.photobucket.com/albums/n277/kingj1983/S13%20REBUILD/today8.jpg

Unfortunately due to him having to go oop north this afternoon we didnt get round to painting it,but its lookin likely for primer to be applied to the cabin and engine bay weds and then full paint next saturday:) all in all Im chuffed with how its coming along (just wish I had more money each month to spend on it).Il update next on wednesday when something has happened again:nod: as Im now of to the pub:thumbs:

Cheers lads :) Its nice to know people like what im doing and dont think Im gonna turn it into some bodged sh*theap:wack: Its taking a lot of help from mates and me learning about the practical side of things and getting my hands dirty:D But Im enjoying it,both the work itself and watching it gradually come together as I want it to be:nod: Its costing a lot but tbh Ive stopped counting/caring,it is the most enjoyable car to drive I have owned/driven and Its gonna be a keeper so might as well do it all properly in the first place:thumbs:

kingj
27-09-2008, 19:44

Another little update for you guys:) I managed to tidy and hoover the barn today in preparation for the spraying wednesday, ive now got black bogeys which is less than appealing:wack: however the job is done, I also managed to get the engine bay prepped and ready:thumbs:

First time its been outside for months:rolleyes: (as I was clearing the barn)
http://i114.photobucket.com/albums/n277/kingj1983/S13%20REBUILD/mon1.jpg

Used this to remove dust ( a LOT better than a broom:D)
http://i114.photobucket.com/albums/n277/kingj1983/S13%20REBUILD/mon2.jpg

Which left it looking like this(couldnt do much with oil patches:rolleyes:)
http://i114.photobucket.com/albums/n277/kingj1983/S13%20REBUILD/mon3.jpg

Then prepped the engine bay:thumbs:

Well, cracked on last night with the car.We had a few hiccups though,we sprayed the inside of the car and it looks all good, bar a bit if dust that can be polished out before we apply the second coat:thumbs: however we had some reaction in the engine bay:( but it wont be hard to sort out so Im told, but its still a bit of a shit:nod: May do a little bit more work on the inside too just to get it looking all smooth and flat before its sprayed agin though, for the time it will take its daft not to.Im hoping to spen the day on it tommorow and then Jay gonna hopefully put a couple of final coats of primer on it tommorow night:) Anyways here some pics

Had another go at the engine bay over the last two days and got the last coat of primer finished this afternoon:) I wasnt happy with it having a couple of reaction marks(and didnt know what caused them) so decided the best thing to do would be to take it back to bare metal:nod: luckily the back of the engine bay was ok:D so not too bad.

Used this:wack:

Yeah, just apply it with a brush and leave it for 20 mins and it will bubble up,then I scraped it with a small peice of plastic card and wiped the remaining residue off with some kitchen roll.Ithen used some squidgees and a bucket of water to remove any traces of the nitromors before we dried with kitchen towels and sprayed again with primer:thumbs:

Well driftworks came through agin today:Plug: when they said they would with what they said they would:) got a japspeed stainless manifold, front pipe and turbo elbow.Good and bad news though as althought the holes on the elbow line up correctly(unlike the apex one:whip:) where the turbo bolts to the manifold I dont see how i can get the last of the 4 bolts through as there isnt enough space between the manifold and bottom of the turbo to physically get it in:confused: may have to put one bolt through backwards so to speak and put a nut on it:nod: tbh I didnt have a proper look and fiddle as I was late for work:rolleyes: and now have a 13 hour night shift to look forward too outside in freezing weather:mad: will update with some pics ASAP and will be starting on with the engine next week so should have the beast back on the road in the next year(hopefully) hope everyone else enjoys their weekend like I am mine:wack:

kingj
01-11-2008, 19:35
Any suggestions would be appreciated:nod: also apart from the 4 turbo holes are the lower 2 in this pic designed for a support brace/damper of some kind? I cant see any other reason for them being there.

Where did you get the manifold from. I thought that all manifolds for T25/28's have studs and not bolts.

kingj
01-11-2008, 21:10
It came from Driftworks mate, the manifold, elbow and front pipe package. Its made by japspeed. If I need to convert it to stud and nut where do I get them from? Im gonna call DW on monday and ask they're advice first as I dont think I should need to be doing this really, the holes for the turbo to bolt to the manifold are threaded though so maybe Il have to drill them out to fit studs if need be:rolleyes:.Cheers J

DanS14a
01-11-2008, 22:13
I'm sure that they should have provided you with the studs as they just screw on and off. Might have just forgotten. But I have never seen any 200 manifold using bolts.

Had a spare couple of hours today so got cracking putting the engine back together:) got the bottom end built up (pistons+clearance, rods, crank, sump etc) and put the ARP studs in the block but didnt torque them cos I cant find the settings(lost the packaging:rolleyes:)think it may be 70 ft lbs (98nm)stud to head and then 65ft (87nm)lbs nuts, but not 100% and this sounds very high to my friend whose C20LET ARP'S were only 25nm!! and Its my memory recall so slightly dubious:wack: gonna ask apex on Monday to look at the settings in a packet on the shelf, unless one of you guys know for sure:confused:
