my s13 progress/project

should of done this ages ago but am lazy.

got my s13 just before Christmas back in 2006. when i got it it was totally standard well apart from the massive super charger sticking out of the bonnet :wack::wack: and the big whole in the bonnet.

got the car home and realised that the car wasnt in the best shape needed two new sills and some rust sorting out in the engine bay so i set to work. (wish i had some pictures should of took more).

got the rears on for a mock up to make sure sure there was nothing daft guna stop me at some point, need to sort the back plates out a little better, also not managed to get them on properly as i need to make some new brake lines (when the stuff finally turns up off E:ghey: :o:o:o)

had a little annoying problem on the front but nowt major just the fact that i need some new caliper bolts as the sx ones are different than the skyline ones, if i searched i probubly would of found that out tho :wack:

it's a bit annoying having to do work i have alredy done once but it the only to learn i suppose i certainly wont be slacking on prep work on the next car i paint...

hopefully after a couple more days af preping i can start geting some primer and paint on there.....

it because the s15 speed signal comes from the ABS, so its a frequency varible signal rather than a voltage varying signal if memory serves..

i've not looked into it properly yet, been busy... will hopefully have a look at it soon

just a compressor both times round mate... first time was down to shocking prep work which i only have myself to blame for..

well not updated this in ages.. its now mot's but waiting for my insurance documents so i can tax it, so whilest waiting i decided to fir my JDM electric folding mirror. was pretty easy to be honest.. took about 4 hours in all.. here are some pics.

drivers side mirror on, they have a 5 pin plug instead of the 3 pin of the stock one as there is the fold.unfold function. my drivers side also has a heater function which is what the blue plug is.
the passenger side is the same..

then its just a case of matching the colours up as the colours on the JDM mirrors match those on the UK car..( well most of)

moving on to the switch it was pretty much the same take the old switch out then fit the new one, matching the wires up on it.

the only other thing i had to do was to connet the blue/white wire of the car to the blue/orange wire of the switch..

and thats about now have electric folding mirrors.... which should stop mr bus man taking my mirrors off... :mad:

next on the list to fit is a decat, and manfold along with a pfc.... and make it boost pass half a bar

i quality is really good, i would recommend them alot, there customer service is excellent :thumbs:

just using 1 16" fan at the minute which is a little large but it seems to be working ok at the minute...

after dropping all my coolent over the road the other week, i have had a few fun packed days:wack:

any way , after driving home early last week, my water temps suddenly went sky high, after further inspection it was coming from one of the turbo water lines.

luckily i already had a new oil and water line kit and the gaskets to do it, also thought why i was there i would change the manifold since i will be taking it off (epic fail right there)

then bolted the turbo up to the manifold, all was going well so far

then i went to fit it, and the bloody ABS unit was in the way, not the end of the world since it wasnt working any way so wiped that off:

then managed to get the manifold in :

on putting the exhaust back on tho i hit a bit of a snag, the manifold had rotatated the turbo very slighty which was really annoying and since there is not flex in my exhaust i had a bit of a struggle to get it on.. managed it in the end but i wasnt perfect...

at about 1am on the Thursday morning i decided to call it quits as i couldnt feel my hands any more...

thursday started again, needed to finish the brake lines and a few other bits and bobs, fitted my R33 GTR BMC too whlist i was doing the brakes, so i have a Z32 one for sale...

thursday night was time to fire it up... started it up and it sounded like a tractor :mad: first i thought it may of been the exhaust blowing really bad but it wasnt, had to strip the whole thing down again :rolleyes: to find out the manifold to head flange was a bit banana shaped and was blowing really bad from number 4 cylinder :cry:

so the stock manifold went back on so after this is what it now looks like:

but on the bright side i have become pretty quick at changing the manifold lol. and all credit to APEX they have swapped the manifold :thumbs:

not fully happy with every thing at the minute, the brake lines for the abs were a rushed job so will be getting done again properly when i have the engine out for its refresh early next year...

and i found rust underneath :cry: which i will be attending to early next year to

managed to get most the ming off, has had it first coat of primer but i dont have a picture of that...

its getting there, have to do some welding on the car so the next few weeks are guna be fairly busy, have a new radiator core support to go in and side skirts, rear spat, front bumper and rear bumper (when i get one) to get go so guna paint the car again me thinks

they are a piece of piss to fit, 3 out of the 4 holes line up directly, 4th one just needs extending and thats it, you also need swoop over the buckles as the ones in the sx are slighty bigger.

i paid £300 delivered for the front seats which are in excellent condition..

rears dont fit, so i will be re covering the rear seats at some point to match the front.

i used fibre glass, used nuber plate taped to the front to give me the shape then glassed the inside up, came out better than i expected, just needs some filling in places :)

is going mate, the car should be in the garage next weekend hopefully, have a pretty big list of stuff to do now, have the usual bit of rust to sort out so this will be taking priority then i will be re under sealing the car.

then i can finally fit my recond subframe, GTR diff, GTR drive shafts/hubs, along with my bodykit.

and hopefully i will finally the S15 gauges :)

welding is not beautiful but since it was my first time i was quite impressed, its nice and solid now.

cant find the finished picture at the minute but its all back together now and re-soundened.

also re made the sill on on the passenger side with the help of a nissan micra sill and a few hammers.

needed a lip welding on to bottom, to make it long enough, and a bit of bucthery to it get it fitting rather nice and solid.

got the back all undersealed again and got the rear subframe back one, with the new poly bushes, although had a few issues with getting the tubes to fit over the studs but managed to get it sorted in the end.

had to remake the fuel feed and return lines, got the R33 GTR diff in then relised that i couldnt find the front mounts which has held me up, i have ordered some solid mounts from driftworks which should be here this week.

also got some driftworks lower arm bushes and camber arm bushes on the way to.

since thats as far as i could get on the rear i decided that i would move to the front, got my Apex oil cooler relocator on and got the intercooler all mounted up properly:

Well, just go to your paint shop and ask if they can mix you a pearl(limited colours, green gold, red, blue. Don't know if they do more)

When you lay your "base coat" let it dry well, then apply the pearl in the same way you did your base, nice and even, the that dry then go for clear coat, that will bring out the pearl effect out like crazy:thumbs:
