Ive my 200SX 2 years now, and its been sitting in the same state for a little while now. Luckily I've had a bit of spare cash, so things are starting to move again :D.

Im going to post every stage of the car's build so far, and continue to update this thread as things progess. So heres the car when I got it in February 2006 after selling my civic, at the tender age of 19 (my first car that I still miss!):

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v606/Quail/P1000064.jpg

The replacement:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v606/Quail/P1000348.jpg

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v606/Quail/P1000349.jpg

Standard ride height was killing me, so I chucked some lowering springs on there (not ideal, but definitely couldnt afford a fancier setup):

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v606/Quail/afterlowering-1.jpg

Then I bought a Touring lip off Nitrodave, and some Advans off of an FTO owner (in weaksauce offset and shitty rubber band tyres! I changed the ones on the rear for something a bit chunkier):

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v606/Quail/P1000544-1.jpg

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v606/Quail/P1000543-1.jpg

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v606/Quail/P1000545.jpg

The I fitted an Apex Single Box system (aka the cat cannon), 3" decat and 3" frontpipe:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v606/Quail/myspace3-1.jpg

It was like this for a while, but then Albert at Knight Racer sorted me out with a nice Works9 bodykit:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v606/Quail/bodykit.jpg

Finished article (with 25mm spacer on the rear Advans):

Then realising my WMIC was horrendously cracked (for God knows how long), I got a kit made for me :D:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v606/Quail/22082006003.jpg

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v606/Quail/22082006005.jpg

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v606/Quail/P1010017.jpg

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v606/Quail/P1010020.jpg

Then I ran it like that for a while. My interior was relatively untouched, just the basic stuff done:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v606/Quail/DSC01695.jpg

This is how it sat for ages. Now after not doing anything to it for ages, I chucked some R33 GTR wheels on. Bloody light compared to the Advans, and better width and offset (17x9 +30). I still prefer the dark look with my car, but the silver is growing on me. However, I'm getting shot of the GTR wheels after a few weeks, and replacing them with my new wheels, Work Rezax (f 17x8 +10, r 17x9 +10). They need a full refurb, which is going to take a few weeks. I need to space the fronts to clear the brakes, so I'll need to run chargespeed fenders (or similar). Because of this, I'm going to run the rears with the GTR fronts for a little while. A bit dori-slag, but I like the look of mismatched wheels anyway:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v606/Quail/P1030131.jpg

The Works:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v606/Quail/IMG_2406-vi.jpg

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v606/Quail/IMG_2407-vi.jpg

With the 9" going to run a 245/45, and get Phil to roll and flare my arches a bit.

And most recently, I removed the spoiler; looks soooooo much better:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v606/Quail/spoilerless.jpg

Just bought some braided brake lines courtesy of Stueywalls1, who turns out to live 30seconds from me! Me and my mate Barry (Baz GT4 on here) will be fitting this, refurbing my brake calipers, fitting new pads, and bleeding the system. This should give me a nice refreshed braking system. If I can afford it I'll pick up a BMC stopper too.

Also getting my mate Alistair (m200sex on here), to fab me up a new exhaust. Going for a subtle bosozoku/dart izumi style system; should look something like this, but a bit more aggressive and extended. Running it with a decat silencer so my ears don't drop off:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v606/Quail/12-9-074-1.jpg

Also got my nardi steering wheel to fit. Going to be sourcing a Personal Neo Grinta horn button from the U.S to get in there. Also thinking of an NRG hub if my budget will stretch that far.

Thats it so far. I'll update with pics as work progresses :)

Did you modify the headlights, as they look modified in your sig picture. I think its one of the key mods that makes your car look different from other 200sx's that I have seen.

Im turning into a wheel whore :(

Picking up some new enkeis in the morning. 17x9 +20 all round. Ill chuck them on in the morning and get pics up ASAP. For now this shitty little pic will have to do:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v606/Quail/enkei.jpg

My collection now consists of 4x enkeis, 4x R33GTRs, 2x Advan SA3Rs and 4x Work Rezax. Im thinking I'll sell the R33GTRs on providing the tyres on the enkeis are all good.

Also got a little package from Japan to collect from the Parcelforce depot :D

Anyway, I quickly chucked the rears on, and I :smitten: them! I predict they're going to rub though, there isnt much clearance between the tyre wall and the arch (255/40 Kumho Ecsta)

Please excuse the extreme dirtyness of my car. Its filthy. Disgusting.

This is, the only 14a with a kit I've ever liked! I remember seeing it at santapod ages ago, can't have been long after you had the kit put on if you've only had it two years!

- by the way, I was the other person in Baz's garage when you popped over to his place over the xmas period, I think I was puzzling over how get a turbo elbow to stay on with three bolts! :wack:

The beauty of wheels is you can buy and sell them without losing too much money. As I get more money in the bank, I can sell my old wheels and put the money, along with the money in my bank (read: overdraft) towards some better ones!

The beauty of wheels is you can buy and sell them without losing too much money. As I get more money in the bank, I can sell my old wheels and put the money, along with the money in my bank (read: overdraft) towards some better ones!

I'm just at the gym at the moment (friends playing boring tennis), so I will try and chuck these on after I've been for a run and swim :D

Yea i know about the overdraft temptations!! - just managed to pay most of mine off and sat here thinking why....just found a site in NYC that do 555 for £230....My parents are going for a week so may have to give them a bit of a list!

Wheels and turbos are soooo much cheapper out there!!!!!:annoyed:

All on the cards man. When I can afford to swap the rear tyres I'll go for 245s, and space the wheels. The offsets weren't +0 as advertised :wack:. Fronts are +22, and rears are a mystery as the print on the sticker has rubbed off. My guess is about the same as the fronts, ~+20. Once I'm back in the green I'll worry about spacing the rears and getting proper fitment shots

Hello mate, I think you misread the stickers! If you see the one you posted, it says 18x10.0. I think you read the .0 as the offset, but thats actually part of the width. Where there is a blank space under those numbers it says "ET", which is the offset, but the numbers next to ET have rubbed off. On the front it says ET22, which is +22 :)

you'll need some 225s on the front if you want to space them out, even then you won't be able to go too far, may be 10mm at most if you turn the camber up to 2+ degrees

Whats the rear spec in the end?

Jam00
21-06-2008, 20:11

Yup, 225s for the front and 245s for the rear, and space both as wide as I can.

The rear is a mystery offset, as the numbers have rubbed off the stickers! Its 18x10 with a 275/40 though!!!

very nice project. I will be getting the same wheels but in gold in about a months time, just wondering what sort of off sets and sizes are you running, and have you got coilovers or just springs.

cheers and keep up the good work

Sorry never got back to you mate, at the moment they're Apex springs on standard dampers, but coilovers are my next purchase. Just want to save till I can get some decent ones; they'll be the most expensive part on my car, and I'm on a very tight budget

The springs on there atm arent the original springs. I dont think the Bilsteins will be damped to such a hard spring, so aiming for something a bit softer.

Any reason why your fitting 225/45s and not 225/40's?

I need a new tyre so was considering putting 225/45's on 235/40s on to fill the front arch a bit more. The bumper is getting destroyed so I cant lower the car more

Or is there a technical reason?

Exactly that reason mate. If I was to tuck 40 profiles my car would literally be sweeping the roads at all times :(

If I tuck it on 45s hopefully I'll retain some sort of ground clearance! I messaged Phil for some advice and he reckons it should look fine.

That is a very nice stance. But yeah it does seem a bit unpractical. I suppose if you just raise the front a tad bit it should be ok.

Looks good mate:thumbs::nod:. Ahh I remember my coilover days....they were too harsh for the amount of milage I did in my car etc plus the front bumper had a few "encounters" with various speed bumps and car parks:wack: so got S Tunes for now.

Hopefully thatll be the last long journey the car sees. Civic logbook should arrive soon so I can retax it!

LOL

So are you going to turn the SX into a track beast, or just don't use it for long trips?

Quail
06-11-2008, 17:23
Its just a fun/weekend car really. Had a massive nightmare with taxing the civic though, so its been daily driven for the past couple months! Not really ideal for motorway journeys

_shaun_
06-11-2008, 17:37
Yea mine was getting to the point where it was not nice on the motorway. So decided to get some S Tunes on it so I can carry on using it - rather than getting another car as a daily driver! Once me an the GF move in together i may think about putting some coilovers back on as I don't mind driving her car as an everyday car:wack:

Got some ARBs in the post today so once they're fitted saturday will see how that set up goes.

hi mate just had a flick through the project and loving the fact you got the 10j +0 offset any chance you could do me some close ups of the rear from all angles preferable straight down as i have 18x10 et22 on the back and thought i can't go any lower offset but looking through this thread makes me thinks different! plus my fronts are 9's et38 with a 15mm spacer, did you reqire a roll to fit your 9.5's
one more thing how much of a pull has phil done on your rear arches?

You referring to me raising it Ben? It'll hardly be noticeable, itll only be a cm or so. I just want to be able to fit my fist under the front! Then I'll be happy :D. It'll still be low as ****!

Slider, for now all I have is the ones on page10 from behind, and these:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v606/Quail/phil2.jpg

My current fitment is (R) 10J +0, (F) 9J +16. I have no archwork on the front (although I need it). Phil's pull wasnt too drastic by any means. As long as theres no rust down there you shouldnt have problems! Im running 245/40s on the rears, and 225/45s on the front

Theres more pull/flare on yours than Quails I'd say

he's got the offset nice and low because hes got 245s on (think you have 265??) and he has a liitle camber

You can fit 9.5s on the front easily down to about et15 if you use a 225 tyre and put a small roll on the front

i'm down to a 255 rear at the mo but might give 245's a go and see how much room i have left to play with, i think i'm running a little camber but i'll start my own project thread soon as i have a few bits planned, as for fronts 225 on 9j et38 15mm spacer to take it down to et23 think i'd only fel safe with an extra 5mm on it tbh.

car looks great!

ever thought about doing something different with the plate? i needed mine smaller but would have had trouble with the local polizie so just trimmed around the full size plate cutting off the excess, was obvisiously made easier by the fact my plate only had 2 numbers, one of which is a 1. just a though :)

oh and winter is an awesome time to drive with the cold air!

Quail
25-12-2008, 23:05
Thanks :)

Trimming off the excess is a good idea actually. I've had a FPN for its location before, so I do need to do something about it really. I temporarily mounted it above the IC when I was in a queue to have the car checked (the police blocked off the carpark!!), but it just didnt look right :(

Stu, I'm back in Portsmouth from tommorow! Drop me a text during the week and I'll come check out your place! You got the 13 with you?

I didnt get a chance to remove the plate and do a proper shoot unfortunately. I did however have a spare hour tonight, so I decided to test my new fisheye lense. Behold my car in all its stonechipped, salty glory! Check out the damage from that dickhead in the Astra too :(
