Hey lads loads of projects on here but this one is a bit less of a start from scratch and build a monster, and more of a preparing the car for competition. I'm entering the Scottish Sprint Championships for the 2008 season and need to prepare my car for regulations and of course to make it suitable for the Job in hand. Hopefully after its prepared I'll be able to update this thread with any mid season adjustments, additions or repairs.

As my car currently stands it’s a suitable car for track work and has already done its fair share of track time over the years, this year it lapped the Nurburgring (bridge to gantry) in 8min 55secs using only 11psi through a std T28 (stage 2) and std road tyres. Lapping Knockhill in about 64seconds (the odd high 63sec being my current best recorded). As it stands the Spec of the car is:-

ENGINE:-
*CA18DET engine
*Full deCAT S/S exhaust
*T28 turbo
*Apex bumper mounted FMIC
*19 row oil cooler and remote oil filter
*Cusco catch can
*DB Power Thick alloy rad
*Apexi AVC-R boost controller
*Norris Designs stage 1 chip
*lightweight Redtop battery
*Nismo uprated clutch pressure plate
*LUK clutch
*OBX short shifter
*Hose Solutions Braided Clutch Line

SUSPENSION/CHASSIS:-
*Apex Gen2 coilovers
*6 point roll cage
*Whiteline adjustable ARBs
*Apex adjustable front tension rods
*Cusco strut braces front/rear
*Apex front bushed TC arms
*Whiteline ARBs front and rear
*Uprated rear ARB drop links
*Stripped interior plus other weight reducing

WHEELS/BRAKES:-
*DB-Power 330mm diameter/4 pot front brakes(redstuff pads)
*Z32 296mm rear disks/2 pot calipers(blackstuff pads)
*Z32 brake master cylinder
*Braided brake hoses
*Rota Boost 17"x8" wheels
*235/40 Hankook RS-2 tyres

INTERIOR:-
*Drivers Bucket seat on bride subframe
*Gauges - oil temp, oil press, water temp, voltage (autometer)
*Snap-off Momo steering wheel on extended boss

I'm not going for silly power and I'm not putting a massive budget into this, reliability (and meeting regs) is my main goal - Gaining experience from this season and proving the car (and driver) in a competition environment, my only previous sprint experience was in 2005 where I did a non championship event at lossiemouth (North Scotland). Already pretty happy with the handling and braking of the car so here is the current plan for modifications and any other bits for next year:-

Z32 AFM
444cc Injectors
Mapping to suit
4 point harness
Manual Fire Extingisher
Battery Located to boot
Nismo engine and gearbox mounts
Cusco clutch
Nismo clutch pivot
Custom rear strut brace/Harness mount
Race kit (boots, balaclava, gloves and shaded visor for helmet)
Suitable pads with good cold bite (have yellow stuff for any non-competition testing/practise)

In addition to this lot I'm going to rebuild a spare bottom end to use but the plan is to go into the next year using the std (original) lump for now and have the new one ready to swap in if required. The rebuild will consist of the following parts:-

Metal Head Gasket
Forged Pistons
ACL main and end bearings
Uprated Conrods
New oil pump
(using new water pump from current engine)

That’s all I can think of just now, will update when I get started - A few tidy up jobs to do on car too before the fun starts. Also if any of the Scottish lads fancy this and want involved (or are already?) give me a shout, its going to be good fun and not too expensive hopefully

Rgds,

Yeah decided I'm going to just get a bar welded in and use it for harnesses :)

Plus gets me a few quid selling my old rear brace :D

Stunned at the response this is getting, everyone offering support, advise and offers of help - Totally awesome lads, thanks loads :notworthy

It just keeps getting better and better though - DB Power and Hose Solutions are in with some sponsorship, complete credit to these companies for offering their support to competition this side of the border and in my first full season too. Superb stuff

Going to get the ball rolling this weekend (once I've fixed the exhaust on my focus  ), the event dates are being announced in December - expecting somewhere between 14 to 18 rounds

My race licence is in the post and comes with the 2008 MSA handbook for regulations the car has to meet

Ayrshire lads, there's normally a round or two through at Kames - cheers for support

8/6 on Gen 2 Apex coilovers - soften the damping at its fine on road IMO (suspension is a very subjective thing though), don't use it everyday.

Stripped down my spare bottom end today, crank looks to be in decent condition but main shells are scored which seems a bit strange. All big end shells were fine except for one which was starting to show up a copper colour - no scores or anything on those though.

A Keiran right under our noses! - mind you, he might have it doubling up as a parts washer, knowing dunc as we all do.

I'd personally use the Dishwasher, as the 90 degree cycle is perfect on alloy, with 90 degree and the spin cycle you may have one up on us there tho Dunc.

If you enter in a road going class (Unstripped interior, Tax'd / tested / Insured) you only need a sticker to show which way to turn the key to kill the engine, and some yellow tape round the main battery LIVE cable ;)

You will need a Type A Helmet, and Approved, fireproof race overall :)

beat me to it, road going class is a really good way of getting into motorsport as it takes basically nothing to do, just need an everyday car,

so something like the tuned s13 will work wonders, i would like to do a few sprints and hillclimbs next year too, but will need to throw away this gash suspension first

Hi Stu, got the yellow tape etc already from a sprint I did in 2005 (will look out my timing strut)

Also looks like the scottish regs are slightly different (plus new classes etc) and should be out for next year soon :)

Will post dates up Roy

Apart from that its got new apex gen 2 coilovers, covered about 300miles - same with the RS-2 trackday tyres on rota rims (new this year too).
