Right thought it was about time I got my new project thread started.

This will be the story of my new Project, and company Demo Car

I’m currently starting my own business, GTB-Developments, a body shop and tuning company based in Taunton, Somerset.
I run the company in my spare time at the moment, with the hope of going full time in the near future.
I’m in the process of setting up a website for the business, which should be up and running in the next couple of weeks.

This S13 will be the first company demo car, to show what we can do as a company.
Its spec list isn’t going to be massive, as I don’t have a silly budget. And as I’m just starting up the business, money has to go elsewhere.
The car will also have to remain very drivable as I shall be entering it into Time Attack 09 once it is complete.

I did have a previous personal project S13 : http://www.sxoc.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=292838

But I was offered a very lightly modded matt black drifty S13 for a price I couldn’t refuse, it was a runner with a few months MOT left on it, which appealed to me, seeing has I hadn’t got to drive my other one yet.
All it needed to make it drivable was a new diff back plate, as the original one had cracked, and it had a intermittent misfire on boost.
The plan was to drive the new one, whilst I finished the other one off.
So I went up to pick the car up armed with some tools and a new back plate robbed off my other s13. Short while late I was driving it home with a big smile on my face. Especially as when I was looking around the car once I got there, and underneath it doing the diff, I noticed that there was absolutely NO RUST on the entire shell (not including boot lid). This made the decision for me to scrap the old project shell, and do all the planned mods to this one instead.

The 50 mile journey home was fine and she run lovely, then the next day the misfire came back.
Changed over the coil packs for some I new were okay, but it made no difference.
It had a 255 pump fitted to it, so I thought I would check the connections on this.
When I undone the engine feed pipe from the pump, the fuel started running back out of the pipe like it would, only the fuel started to go a funny colour, so I thought I would check the fuel filter.
Whilst I was doing some wiring inside the car, paulpen whipped off the filter, and found the problem.
Fuel was going into the filter clear, and coming out of the filter like cappuccino.
Swapped it over for one I had lying around, and took it for a drive. For the first time I got the full potential of the mods, and bugger me did it put a smile on my face…
…for one day, then the clutch decided to give up the ghost, it obviously couldn’t handle the new found power.

I decided to whip the clutch out an replace it with one capable of around 350 horses, so I didn’t need to change it in the future.
While I was doing that I though I would fit a new exhaust at the same time, and do the turbo gaskets……..and……….and……..

…….well, one thing led to another (as they always seem to do with my cars) and I now have a non running project again.

I have now cancelled the insurance, and intend to do the majority of the work before the car sees the road again, hopefully in the not too distant future.

Its not a very good pic, as my camera battery is flat, so its just a phone pic, but gives you an idea of what I’m up against.

Thanks for reading,
and shall keep updating as work is carried out.
Hopefully work will progress quickly

Thanks

for my first season, i shall only be running around 400bhp :ghey:
it gives me a chance to build something special ready to install for the next season, but it wont be a CA this time,
have a few options in the pipeline for transplanting, just weighing up the pros and cons of each

Bit of an update, as yet again I’ve let the thread slip

Havn’t had a chance to do much over the last few weeks with Christmas etc.

A few pics of whats been done so far: (you’ll have to excuse the quality of the pics, they’re taken from two different phones)

My tailgate was beyond repair, so I went out and got a stop gap till I get my carbon tailgate.
Picked up a second-hand tailgate, that had been previously repaired (bodged) for £30,
Once I got it home and looked closer it wasn’t brilliant, so I pushed out the existing P40 from the dodgy repairs and ground out the filler from the one plate that had been patched in. Then I flipped it over and matted up over the old holes and around the repair plate, and smoothed the wiper hole at the same time.
Once the resin had gone off I turned it back over and filled the areas that needed it.
Rubbed it down etc etc, and got it ready for primer.
Gave it a couple of coats of 2k primer, stuck the heater on and went to McDonalds while it went off.
By the time I’d eaten my unhealthy ‘not-so-fast’ food, the primer had gone off enough for me to flat down.
Quick bit of 800 wet and dry and it was ready for final coat - aerosol satin black.
And here is the result, not bad for a nights work:

Next I turned my attention to the existing wheels I have on the car, I thought I would spruce these up a bit before I get my new wheels.
So I stripped the wheels back to the basics.
Then rubbed the rim down with 240, 500, 600, 1500 and 2000 before giving them a quick polish with Autosol.

http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c81/punto_nutter/22122007007.jpg

I’m going to snap off all the fake cap heads, then drill and tap the wheel a couple of threads and add shortened stainless 6mm cap head bolts once the inners have been painted.
The centres are going to be repainted in a wet on wet etch primer followed by a final coat of plain gloss white of the scheme.
Two of the wheels are ready to be painted, the others are still on the car, and need to be prepped still.
Will hopefully get these all done next weekend.

In between doing the wheels I started to do some of the engine dress-up parts as well.
I’ve started on the cam covers, and the pulley cover is nearly finished as well.

http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c81/punto_nutter/06122007002.jpg

I also made a holder for my Boost Controller, and Power Meter.
I took the existing central air vents to pieces till I was left with the basic frame. I then built a back to it using metal filler, and small metal rods for strength. Once I had a basic shape I was able to smooth it all in and paint it.
I then re bonded the front piece to the vent behind, allowing the original fixings to be maintained.
I also bonded the vents closed so the warm air couldn’t blow onto the back of the controllers.

(the controllers are just placed in for the pic)

What with working on other cars in between, I haven’t had a chance to get much else done on the 200.
But hopefully will now be able to turn my attentions back onto the car as from now.

I have a plan for the next few weeks, with lots going on, so will be updating every couple of days.

Thanks again,

Matt

just a small update:

got my spare engine (its done 20k miles since a rebuild) onto the stand, to start building it back up to get it ready to be put into the car, once the engine bay is ready

http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c81/punto_nutter/14012008178.jpg

complete with guard dog :D

http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c81/punto_nutter/14012008184.jpg

have also stripped part of the front end ready for preperation:

http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c81/punto_nutter/16012008193.jpg

and these were the only 2 bits of rust found :D

1. where the brake fluid had been leaking from the abs unit, and had taken the paint off, its just surface rust, no real rust.

http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c81/punto_nutter/16012008195.jpg

and, 2. the n/s front corner, where the captive nut for the wing is meant to be:

http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c81/punto_nutter/16012008196.jpg

and thats all the rust on the front end :p:p:p

this is what both of the strut tops are like :D

http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c81/punto_nutter/16012008197.jpg

just the tiniest bit of surface rust, and its fine underneath it aswell.
doen't really matter though, as i'm going to take them off and stitch weld in a new piece anyway

next step will be done tonight, going down after my fish and chips to strip the rest of the engine bay and front end, so i can prep it up tomorrow ready to stitch weld the bay when i get some more welding gas.

Matt.

been real busy helping others with their cars, so not a massive amount of progress done, but that will change in the next couple of weeks

just need to get the bushes out now, so i can paint everything next week.

and last night went down and fixed the big dent the previous owner had put in the rear 1/4 panel, managed to just get my hand in to it to beat it out first :D

I know you are aware of this but for the newbies...Cast steel starts to corrode sooner than mild steel. it's best to prime the cast parts first
