no nothing done on this yet dragging my heels a bit at the moment as I have a few other things to get fot it first before I start the rebuild and rot removal.

I was going to wait until after tdw3 but as that isnt happening atm I might just start stripping everything out and make a start on tidying her up making a start on all the rot lol but it will be done dont fret lol :wack:

well the enevitable happend last week my gt2871r gave up the ghost however I have gotmyself another turbo now in the form of a nice cheap gt3076 (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=120279942534&ssPageName=STRK:MEWA:IT&ih=002) so as soon as this arrives I will be getting on with putting it on the car  I am sure it is going to take a fair bit of work to get everything working with it and am not sure how it will perform however it has got to last longer than the 18 months(only 12 of which the car was being used) my last garrett gt2871r lasted.

I did pull the turbo appart to see what had happend and noticed that there was no rear oil seal and the bearings had well a truly collasped, the endcap was thick with burnt on oil (must have been leaking from day 1) which fills me with confidence that this could have been causing my oily exhaust and bigends going as often as they have  so I am hoping that all will be fine and dandy once I get it all together and start her up for the first time in the next couple of days :D :wack:

well I picked my new turbo up last night and all I can say is  wow and it is huge lol

I didnt think it was quite as big as it actually is lol I'll get some pics up asap

the problem that I now have is fitting the induction trunking to it as the inlet on the turbo is about 3.5" and the trunking is only 2" :wack: we will see what happens tonight lol :wack:

although I think I may need some sort of reducer and some metal piping to bodge something together

http://i136.photobucket.com/albums/q169/200sxdrifter/turbo/turbo2.jpg

now all I have to do is fit this big mutha of a turbo and hey presto its a goer :p

now the exhaust housing is a t25 fitment so should blot onto the stok mani with a little manipulation for clearance for the compressor housing :wack:

here is the progress from last night.

I have had to modify the exhaust manifold to accomodate the compressor housing and as I was doing so a smallish hole appeared in it :wack: so I had to repair it.

sorry in advance for the quality of the pics peeps

and finally the finished article to which the turbo sits nicely

http://i136.photobucket.com/albums/q169/200sxdrifter/turbo/IMAG0009.jpg

all I need now so that I can finish it all off is a new oil feed banjo bolt as the original one is to narrow however I have something that is the same size thred and can sort it from there

slider91
17-07-2008, 13:40
went out lunchtime and got the banjo bolt that I needed so I am now hoping that tonight I can get the job finished :wack:

slider91
18-07-2008, 06:59
ok here is how the work went last night

had to get the banjo bolt in for the oil feed that is now done.

then had to weld the elongated holes for the oil return bolts so I had more surface area fot the oil return to seal against. Done

also had to make a mounting bracket for the actuator. Done

things were going well at this point

http://i136.photobucket.com/albums/q169/200sxdrifter/turbo/100_0197.jpg

http://i136.photobucket.com/albums/q169/200sxdrifter/turbo/100_0200.jpg

but then I hit a bit of a snag where I couldnt find a pipe for the inlet side of the turbo so I thought I would measure it and see what I needed and I need a pipe with an id of 4" going down to 2.5" fot the metal pipe I have to join the induction trunking to

then when I got home insperation hit 'why not go to B&Q and check the plumbing section for something' which I will do today

ok here is an update she is back on the road now so here are the pics of how it went :D

http://i136.photobucket.com/albums/q169/200sxdrifter/turbo/100_0202.jpg

http://i136.photobucket.com/albums/q169/200sxdrifter/turbo/100_0206.jpg

I decided to change the angle of the pipe fron the turbo because it was pointing directly at the chassis and I wouldnt have been able to get any pipe on it lol :wack:

hum... it really looks like a tight fit mate...
damn the turbo is big :S lolol

how's she running btw?

slider91
22-07-2008, 10:11
she seems to be running ok just havent had chance to put my boot down due to no fuel and no space to do it lol  it is a bit of a tight fit but it all works (well atm anyhow) and I am hoping to get it all working nicely and get a chance to test the boost on it soon

makes my t3 look small :(

Best of luck with it mate

slider91
22-07-2008, 10:55
cheers buddy

so what T3 do you have then?

Razzario
22-07-2008, 11:13
I have a 2wd cossie t3, a lot smaller than that beast of yours for sure

slider91
22-07-2008, 11:37
lol yeah they will be I believe the cossie t3's are a t3021 so pretty much the entry level in size of the t3's :)

what's the point of modifying a standard manifold to fit a 3076?

Madda

what's the point of modifying a standard manifold to fit a 3076?

probably budget for Simon...

...but i personally hate stainless steel manifolds, I dont think I know one person who have never had theres crack if they have been using them for a while.

slider91
23-07-2008, 08:20
yes it is just a budget thing however I dont fancy having a mani fail on me as the car is my daily runner :wack:

slider91
25-07-2008, 12:15
ok its been a few days now since I have had the turbo back on the road and what I have noticed so far is as follows :

firstly she is a lot more economical around town allbeit she is slightly slower

the boost doesnt kick in fully untill 4,000 RPM however when it does kick in she goes from 4k to the limiter in approximatly 4 secs in 2nd gear and pulls like a train in third and forth  not actually got her to full boost in 5th yet ( would be braking the speed limit for the motorway) however I am sure I will at some point

so in conclusion there is a bit of lag but when she does kick in then all hell breaks loose :wack: and all is good :D

Razzario

good news matey

japdrifter
25-07-2008, 15:47
wat boost you running her at?

slider91
15-08-2008, 10:58
ok base boost is only 10 psi high is 15psi

M.D.
15-08-2008, 11:06
mate thats class, and good on you for using the standard manifold too as all these stainless ones are just gash.

ive seen this turbo on ebay a few times and was wondering when someone would fit it :)

and 4k full boost is class for a turbo of that size, better than my old t28 was
be interested to see how it lasts, especially after mine lasting so long with no real sympathy lol

What's your current engine spec for that beast of a turbo?

sx_minx
15-08-2008, 12:46
What's your current engine spec for that beast of a turbo?

Atm the engine is still standard, apart from a 1.6 cometic head gasket. It's due to have bigger injectors as soon as we've got a Nistune ECU

slider91
15-08-2008, 13:00
as tracey just said my engine is currently standard with a 1.6mm cometic hg and I am also using a walbro pump large fmic but other than that standard 370cc injectors, standard afm and mucho bodgery pipework lol however all that will be resolved as soon as I can get a nistune ecu board hopefully going to get a stage 3 map to go on it to start with then map it on the fly using (to start with) a set of 444cc injectors and a z32 afm  however I am also in the middle of respraying the car again as the paint is looking a bit old and decrepid now lol

slider91
20-08-2008, 12:51
well I have some pics of how the respray is coming along so as soon as I have a bit of spare time I will get them up

just a quick lowdown on what has taken place so far

firstly I have sprayed the spare bonnet that I had and put that on the car
I have also resprayed the boot lid that I had spare so hopefully that will be going on tonight and I will be getting the holes drilled for the spoiler. I have sprayed the eye lids (still have to laquer them yet) going to be wet blocking them tonight ready to take the laquer also have a set of front wings to prep and spray and will be getting a set of doors (thanks to chris) to prep and spray too.

The spoiler will be coming off the current boot lid tonight (as long as I get the new one on the car tonight) and will start the prep and spray work on that tonight

slider91
22-08-2008, 07:19
well the bootlid is on and the light covers however the bootlid will need doing again as the laquer reacted and needed to be flatted down and I can still see the marks from that on it :( the light covers are done and on the car but they will need blocking once the laquer has fully hardend as there is loads of bits in it  hopwever looks a lot better than it did before

I still havent had chance to upload the pics yet but will do asap :wack:

slider91
21-11-2008, 11:39
bit of a change in direction for the 13 now all will be revealed soon :wack:

21-11-2008, 19:51
That turbo looks like an xs power to me? is it? also surely if running a turbo that size with a standard ecu map you will be running lean and risk melting something:confused: good on you for giving it a go though mate,I look forward to seeing how your project comes along:thumbs:

slider91
24-11-2008, 13:19
its a stage 2 hd ecu chip and yes it runs rather lean and dets quite servearly but did this with the gt2871r I had on there also.
